This has got to be the worst cinema i have been to. Its not that expensive but the quality of what you get is dire. Extremely cold and dank and uncomfortable seats. The sound and picture quality was poor. the staff were officious and were full of petty rules - for instance i could not bring a blanket in as they said it was a fire risk and they check you arn't bringing any food in that you might consume on the premises. Its a shame because I have 4 children and would like to support a local independent cinema.

(updated on 29 January 2012 )

The one star rating is too good. If I could choose zero I would.
Recently had my daughters 6th birthday party to see Kung Fu Panda 2 and paid for the gold package at £10.25 per head. Please note child tickets are normally £6. Below is a list of our negative experiences, there are no positives I’m afraid.
1) On Arrival it was chaos, people streaming into the cinema and no where for us to ensure all our group were there. No welcome or organiser to advise us of anything.
2) Prior to attending we asked that our group of 10 children would be seated together which we got a yes response to. When we arrived it was a free for all so we had kids dotted around the cinema. When I complained to say we had to sit apart we were told to arrive earlier even though we arrived the time the cinema advised!!!!
3) The goody bag that the children take into the cinema comprises of Tesco basics. Obviously bought from the Tesco next door. For additional £4.25 per child of which we had ten we would expect a bit more for our money. 1 bag of basics crisps, some little tube of those pellet sweets, a pencil and a small thin choc bar that you would get as a after dinner sweet with coffee, although this is a kids one with a frog on.
4) After the film showing we are ushered into the cafe area and left to our own devices. The party food comprises of sandwiches and a cake, that is it. There are cups on the table and no drink. When I ask for a drink, I get 1 carton of Tesco basics orange juice between 10 children, each child got a mouthful of drink. When I ask for more I get offered tap water.
5) I also asked if we got any crisps for the kids, the young lad behind the counter offered me some Tesco basics crisps, only for the Deputy manager to take them off of me and say they are for another party.
6) Embarrassed by the whole affair I went to the Tesco to buy my own biscuits, crisps and drinks for the children as there was definitely no party atmosphere.
7) The poor attempt at a child goody bag comprised of some crayons, a 5 page mini notepad, ballon and a clapper (one of those plastic things with an elastic band on).
8) I approached the deputy manager to state I was not happy and at no point did she take any accountability. She shrugged off the complaint stating they had a party before us and they seemed happy. Irrelevant in my opinion as we received no customer service, no organisation or any one checking if everything was okay.

All in all I pretty dire affair. I should’ve known when I first walked in and saw the sign on the wall stating “Abuse of staff will not be tolerated”. Obviously something that happens regularly there. Judging by our own experience and the majority of negative reviews here I understand why.

Please note we paid for the gold package, bronze and silver purchases beware!!
Avoid this place like the plague, it is the worst ever.

Don't even attempt to complain to the management. They will take no accountability and will find something to blame you for. You will also be told you are the only person who they have received a complaint from.
They are rude, and have no understanding of customer service.

Don’t go to wells film centre what a joke of a place, its a pokey little hole with no atmosphere it smells and has the most uncomfortable seats imaginable the owner is rude and unhelpful, I am not a violent person but felt I could happily punch the owner on the nose for his unhelpful rude manners towards my wife and I.

If it were possible to give negative feedback on the star rating I would, this dump of a cinema does not deserve one star. I have never been so insulted by any one in control of a premises in my life, I purchased the tickets for my wife and myself on line thinking it would be the best way of gauranteeing a seat,we arrived 15 mins early to be kept waiting at an inefficient till system and again waited for what seemed an eternity for popcorn etc, we got into the pokey little room that they laughingly call their multi screen complex only to find that the only two seats available were on opposite sides of the cinema, unhappy with this we made our way back to the front of house to see if it were possible to exchange our tickets for another film or get a refund or use the tickets for a later showing of the film we had wanted to see, I was informed by the owner, a Mr Derek Cooper that it was quite impossible for any of these to take place and that it was my fault for arriving late, Mr Cooper was rude unhelpful and offensive. I now here from talking to other locals that Mr Cooper is known for his poor attitude towards customers and always blames the customer. I will not be going to Wells cinema again.

this place is rubbish and none of the staff is friendly and they charge way to much for way to little. they also have to have lots of people there for them to actually play the film regardless of the timetable.

Very disappointed in my last experience this week. Did think as lady above that this was a sweet little cinema with lots going for it and I used it often.

However, last time we went as a part of 9 we spent over £60 on tickets and drinks for the whole party only to be informed that they were going to search my 12 year old's bag for security reasons rather thant he sweets which they were obviously searching for (which she did have in there and would have admitted if asked).

It was a very embarrassing and awkward situation and I will certainly not be going there again.

I've just had a reply to my email complaint asking me to remove their email from my address book as they have mine!!

Unbelievable...these people have never heard of customer service and I am afraid that I have seen no sign of the 'friendly service' mentioned.

I remain totally unhappy about the situation and know many others who feel the same. Its not even just their policy it's the way they carry it out.

This is situated at the bottom end of Wells, close to Tesco. It looks nothing like a cinema from the outside!

With a full range of films this is a really different experience to a visit to a multiplex cinema. The screens are much smaller and the seats more like the cinemas of yesteryear.

There are packages for children’s parties that are excellent. For under £10.00 the children get a goodie bag to take in to watch the film, a film, a party tea and a poster to take home! The birthday cake with candles was provided too. Excellent!

Pros~
There is a pay and display car park opposite the cinema for convients. The cinema itself has a nice front loads of posters and information avalible. A good range of sweets drinks and a bar with alcholic drinks.

Cons~

Inside the cinema is a complex lay out where you go from one till to another very confusing. The cinema tickets were much more expensive than in the larger cinemas. After buying tickets drinks etc. I had a women ask if she could take my shopping as I had got the bus and bought my daughter a gift in woolworth. I said no thanks she said we don’t allow people to bring there own food. I told her it was not food and I was holding the food we had bought in the cinema. I showed her what was in the bag. (A leapster game) but she still requested I left it behind the main desk which was completly unnessasary. I felt completly violated. After leaving my bag agaist my wishes we went into the cinema screen. upon opening the door an overwhelming stink came over us. Inside the cinema smelt of sick it was stuffy hot and made me feel very sick so we left the cinema after the ads. I asked for a refund I said I could sit in there is stinks and the lady objected and I left very unhappily with my shopping and no film out of pocket! avoid this guys

I love going to the cinema and I am very grateful to this place for making it accessible in the countryside! It’s a fantastic little independent cinema, that is family run, or certainly used to be. Nicely chosen films, mother and toddler screenings, good choice of sweets, nachos and drinks, Haagen Dasz (Sp). Very nice people running it, very helpful. And a fantastic film club for those who like th sorts of films that you are most likely to see at the NFT, which is run separately.
