Empire Cinemas close the ticket desks because you can buy tickets at every till in the cinema or at Self-Service ticket machines, it is not a matter of cutting back the point is why not buy your tickets and popcorn together instead of waiting in two dufferent cues.

Prices seem to gop up quite often and sometimes have the aircon turned up a bit much in the theatre but otherwise staff are very helpful and screen times are great. Seats are comfy too!

It’s a shame this cinema is hidden away. It’s on the far end of town away from all of the shops so I don’t think many people know about it.
It’s over the road from the gala casino and the multi storey car park. It’s really easy to get to and if you remember to validate you parking ticket when getting your cinema tickets you get free parking.
There are a good few screens with a number of films playing at one time. The cinema has the usual sweets section, popcorn and nibbles. It also has a licensed bar upstairs (for the over 18s). If you pay extra you can get a vip seat in the cinema which is larger than normal (more comfortable in my opinion), alcoholic drinks are allowed into the vip section and waiter service. tehre are only 12 seats in each vip section and it is much quieter than being in the normal seats.
The cinema was very clean and didn’t appear to have kids hanging around.

This cinema is located in the city centre of Sunderland. It is joined to a multistorey car park so when you visit the cinema you can hand your car parking ticket in and the staff will stamp it for you, so you dont need to pay at the machine. Wednesdays have 2 for 1 offers on orange mobile phone users, this night can get very busy so might be worth pre booking. At the front of the cinema there is a wide selection of refreshments and sweets, arcade games are there for the kids to use, but beware theses are quite expensive!!! Overall a lovely cinema with offers for students ancd £1 special on saturdays for kids and parents. Well worth a visit.

The empire cinema in sunderland is very central. If you are visiting the cinema you can park in there car park and they will stamp your ticket so you dont have to pay. I take the kids on a saturday where the kids films which have been on for a couple of month will be on for £1. Its a nice big cinema, it is quite pricey for snacks and drinks, so if you take the family expect to pay alot.

The empire is the new cinema in Sunderland. With 12 screens showing all the latest films it has everything you would expect from a cinema.
The cinema never seems to get very busy except on wednesdays due to the Orange 2 for 1 offer. To cut back on staff they now rarely use the ticket booth and instead get people to buy the tickets at the refreshment stand. This can lead to long lines when it is busy. If this is the case I would recommend going upstairs to the bar to buy your tickets as it is generally a lot quicker.
A couple of the screens have “VIP” rooms at the back. These are basically a small room overlooking the screen with bigger, more comfortable seats and the oppurtunity to take your drinks in from the bar. Although tickets cost a little bit more they are a good choice for when the big films come out as you don’t get crammed into a packed cinema and instead have plenty of space and no interuption from people talking throughout the film.
