Showcase Cinema De Lux, Westfield Derby

Yes it's plush,but I won't go there again.The whole Westfield Centre is awful news for old established (and good) city centre shops.
Go and support the Quad cinema instead if you're in the city centre-they run some mainstream films but they do loads of interesting,intelligent,less mass-market stuff too.The Ritz up at Belper is brilliant for that too,but it can be a pain to book a seat.

was not impressed with how to get to the cinema via lift for those who are dissabled.

Quality!!!! Love this place and would go alot more if i could afford it. Recommend anyone to go even if its just the once to experience it. Altho dont sit on the front row, you get neck ache! But do go. and havin Nando’s next door makes it a good night out aswell, or a great place for a date!!

The Showcase Cinema De Lux, located in the Westfields Centre is in the perfect surroundings which has added convenience for customers who want to shop, eat & catch a movie. Suprisingly, the cost of a ticket is the same as the one in Sinfin, yet the facilities are far superior. I guess the only disadvantage is that there is no free parking, but with such a modern layout, thats a small price to pay.

Lovely cinema with great seats, although the directors lounge is a little pricy for what it is.

Has own resturant and bistro inside, can even order takeway food to take into the cinema.

Parking is uses the main westfield car park and is cheaper after 6.30pm

What a wonderful cinema this is. Atop the lovely Westfield Centre,up loads of purple-light-edged esculators, it’s like going into a space-age world with weird and dramatic decor. It feels exciting going up into the air in Derby!
Love the lopsided pillars, a bit like “Quod”. The staff are firendly and courteous and the cinemas themselves so comfortable and spacious.
Not too expensive either. Makes for a great night out, perhaps following a visit to the restaurant there or Nandos or Pizza Express below.

Good: Location. Having a cinema in town was a very intelligent idea! There are many entrances to it and you get get to it pretty much from the Westfield car park.
Bad: Prices. £7ish a ticket? No thankyou.
Good: Sunday & Daytime Prices. £5ish a ticket? Yes please. I only tend to go on these days!
Bad: VERY EXPENSIVE FOOD! But what did we expect eh?
Good: Orange Wednesdays. Yes! They partake in the best idea in the centutry! Thankgod.
Bad: Dark rooms! God forbid you arrive after the lights have gone down in the screening rooms because you will not be able to see a thing.
Good: Setting. The cinema itself is absolutely lovely. You can’t fault it at all.
Bad: Seating plans? Feels a bit like school to me. I want to pick myself where i sit when i get in there!
Good: Self-service machines. Quick, simple and easy to use! Life-savers if there’s queues at the desk!

Very good, very good. They have nifty self service machines outside where you can buy your tickets. The seats inside were excellent, no sore bum at all during a 2 hour film. Can’t understand people complaining about prices….its a cinema for god’s sake, its designed to rip you off.

The Showcase Cinema is very comfortable, but totally overpriced. £25 for one adult and three children to see a children’s movie. There are no prices available on their website, so this comes as a shock when you arrive. Their telephone service is a joke, endless adverts but no actual information that you rang up to acquire.

This is by far the best cinema that I have ever visited. I know that it has only recently opened and everything looks shiny new however the ambience and setting is fantastic and that is even before you’ve seen a movie. The foyer area is large a spacious with restaurant, bar, ticket area and food stalls. As we visited on a quiet Wednesday morning in October it was very quiet. As this was a family outing we split up to see 2 different movies and in each screen we had it completely to ourselves. The staff we really helpful and welcoming and even offered to watch my sons buggy while we were there which we obviously took them up on. Overall this was the best cinema experience that I have had.

I love this cinema, it’s such a big improvement on the other cinemas in Derby, and finally we have a decent cinema in the centre of town, long overdue I feel!

The entrance is via the Westfield centre, and as you go up the escalators you are welcomed by a member of staff with a friendly greeting. The foyer is spacious and comfortable, with plenty of sofas and chairs to sit and wait. There is also a small restaurant and bar area – I haven’t tried it yet but the menu looks very good.

The screens themselves are lovely, with stadium seating so you are always very comfortable and have a clear view of the screen from anywhere in the cinema. The seats themselves are comfortable and luxurious, and there is plenty of legroom. When you buy tickets you are allocated a seat number – I personally would prefer to choose my own seat when I go into the screen.

There are 12 screens in total including the Director’s Lounge, for which you pay extra but drinks and snacks are included in the price, and it has its own bar. If you are willing to pay the extra then it does provide a bit more luxury, with waitress service and bigger, even more comfortable seats.

Prices are average, and only £5 if you go before 6pm.

Showcase cinema de lux is in Westfield centre Derby and this is the only entrance. It is the highest point of the shopping mall and is the floor above Nandos/Pizza express.

Even though the cinema is so high up, you would not expect it to be so big and luxurious as it is. It has 12 screens including a director’s lounge which i am told is very good but does not really appeal to me as it just seems to be for the bar.
There are also 2 floors of cinemas 6 screens on one, another 6 on the other. There is also refreshments on both floors but you need to buy the tickets on the first cinema floor.

The staff in this cinema are brilliant, they are so friendly enthusiastic and nice. It makes me want to live there!

There is a restaurant inside as well which is a bonus.

This is the best cinema in the area at the moment due to its wonderful appearance, great staff and good value. The seats are all the same price and reclining and the snacks aren’t as expensive as odeon cinemas.

This cinema is open late and so you could make a whole evening out of it with all of its features. The prices for the cinema do go up a bit after 6pm to £7.20, i think.

This is a brilliant cinema and the only one i will visit in the area at the moment.

Lovely plush new cinema. The bar’s pretty good, although I haven’t tried the food. If you want a real treat, try the Director’s Lounge - it’s about £12 a ticket but you get access to a private bar which makes more of an 'evening’ of going to the cinema and the seats are VERY nice! Bit pricey, but you get what you pay for.

very luxury, but is not priced to the same standard. lots and lots of escalators and if u end up in a screen from 7 to 12 you will be sky hight by the time you get there, you have to go through the westfield centre no direct entrance just to cinema, you do get given seat numbers with ur ticket but unless very busy its not too much of a problem where you sit. handy for the over 18s if you want to make an evening of it, say if you get there early there is a nice bar up at the paying desk, there is two food bars so queues wouldnt be a problem. well worth a visit and decor and design is pretty amazing for what could have been a bog standard cinema, prices arent out of touch with the normal cinemas these days

Ok it’s very plush and it’s an experience, but unless you book online (if of course you can get on their hopeless website booking system) or go down in person don’t bother.

For a delux cinema that cost so much money you would have thought that a person on the end of a phone wouldn’t be too much to ask! MMmmmm!! maybe not, their over the phone booking system is awful, 8 minutes of (money costing) burb and then it books the wrong time. Takes your money and then tough!.. a trip down to Derby to get your money back. Waste of time. All mouth and no trousers as my old aunt used too say!!

A better deal is found out of town.

cinema delux is a very high quality cinema and is very expensive t i would prefer to go to a normal cinema then go to this one as it is expensive and always full of people its alwright if you are rich go all you like but i think it is way over priced

I don’t really like the cinema de lux, its too expensive and although it has obvious luxury I’d much rather be watching the latest releases in the nearby odeon or showcase cinemas, simply because they have a more authentic cinema feel to them. The Cinema de-lux is mostly crowded and i feel overrated, everything from the ticket prices themselves to the food on sale.

I absolutely love the new showcase de lux in Derby. It is huge and spacious with a great relaxed atmosphere.

The seats in the actual cinemas are bigger and have the cup holders and they recline so much better and so are much more comfortable than the old showcase seats.

I was weary that the prices were going to be so much higher than regular cinemas. Well in the daytime it is about £5 but in the evening it is about £7 unless you want to sit in the luxury of the Director’s lounge which is £10 but they do have waiter service in there so you can order your food and they will bring it you.

The foyer of the cinema is great. There are sofas all around to sit on while you wait for the start of the film. There is a huge food service area although they don’t seem to make good use of it as there only seems to be a couple of staff on at a time which means huge queues to buy Popcorn etc.

There is a huge box office area too but you canalso buy tickets from the fast service machine if you are paying by card. This is a great idea if you don’t want to queue for your tickets.
There is a large bar area too where you can sit and have an alcoholic drink either before or after the film. I don’t know what the prices are like though as I didn’t fancy an alcoholic drink.

One thing that I don’t think works too well is that when you buy your tickets you are assigned seats. I like to walk into a cinema theatre and get a feel of where the best place to sit is. It also doesn’t work too well when there is no member of staff to show you to your seat as has happened a couple of times. Then we just chose our own seats and hoped for the best.

One thing if you aren’t a fan of escalators then Showcase deluxe isn’t for you as there are 3 escalators to get you up there from in the Westfield and there is no other way of getting in or out than through the Westfield centre.

If you don’t go to the cinema very often then I would definitely recommend it as a special treat!
