1 review of English Heritage: Maiden Castle in English
Ok, to a lot of people this is could be just a large, bumpy hill outside Dorchester but I think it’s fab.
The place is huge and it was really peaceful. We had the place to ourselves barring a few sheep and the views were fantastic.
There’s even the remains of a Romano-Celtic temple and although I was a bit late for the Roman invasion it’s not hard to stand on top of this hillfort looking across to where the Romans would have set up base in Dorchester and feel the power and confidence the British tribe would have felt. Those ramparts would have taken some getting over.
Often seen from the air because of it’s size this is well worth a visit, if only for the workout after walking around it.
