Dobó István Vármúzeum

The castle of Eger is an fortress on a hill overlooking the city centre. The castle is known mostly for the failed siege by the advancing Turks in 1552. Although the Turks greatly outnumbered the Magyars that hid inside the castle and who were led by István Dobó, the Hungarians managed to successfully defend their castle. Those interested in castles will likely be disappointed, since nowadays there isn’t much left of the once impressive castle other than a bastion or two, the Gothic palace from 1470 and several other buildings.
