10 reviews of Alwaalis Restaurant and Banqueting Hall in English
I was there a couple of days ago. N the services did not let us down.
N we enjoyed the food etc…. Keep the work n the good customer services up INSHALLA. X
I believe it has come a long way! Al- Waalis, we use to look at it from outside and wonder what kind of place it would be inside. We visited it first in 2010 and thought it was not bad but the standard slowly started droppin and my visits with my friends reduced. Aided paticularly by so many venue options suddenly by summers (Cheetham Hill & Wilmslow road). The price went up which also was a great put off. But recently their promotionary adverts started appearing and my wife & I decided to visit again. We were amazed!! who ever is cheffing is really doin the job proper. Fish Pakoras are amazing and so is the coleslaw (fresh & crispy). This time around I could barely eat the mains because the starter was too good Pakors, Kebabs & tandoori chicken all were great! The service of the staff is up a few notches which is great. The food was nice, warm and everything was there. Who ever is managing is really putting the effort (I believe it is the gentleman with long hair behind the counter who is very friendly, respecting and polite. Thumbs up for him!!). I am goin in again tonight and lets hope my experience was not a one off. In a nutshell, the positives: Ample parking, Ample seating, great choice of salads, starter & mains and friendly staff
Negatives: The out look of the building from outside, Even though the interior is cozy yet a seating plan is a bit of hit & miss (I prefer open plan), Dessert choice wasnt to my personal liking (notenough choice) yet everybody else (my family) thought it was good. Cutlery & crockery needs an update.
Please do note I am not complaining about the food or the cost what so ever cuz I think it is great. The only suggestion on the creativity point for the management would be to have a special for every week or two week or even monthly, giving us a reason to go in again and again to try it!! :) Superb job!
Awsome place to visit. Really mouthwaterig dishes. Although they increased the price to £ 9.99 but they also increased the dishes. For £ 6.50 they were offering only 22 dishes but for £ 9.99 they are offering 26 dishes, along with chicken corn soup, Dahi bare, cream fruit chat and Kashmiri Tea. They also introduce Chinese dishes like Egg fried rice, Chicken Manchurian, Chicken Schezwan along with Mexican chicken wraps and Italian Pasta. Nehari, Haleem, Paya well I am from Lahore and I got the true taste of those three dishes. Important thing is every thing in Buffet, Help yourself as much as you want not like NAWAB chef standing at Nehari, Paya, Haleem giving you small quantity and have to come again and again to get more.
All the dishes are rich and taste and very delicious. Staff very friendly always ready to help not like Karims, Nawab or Sanam. So if I compare the food offer by Al-Waalis with the price it is justified.
Secondly with increase price of adults they giving 50% discounts for the kids upto 10 Years old and under 5 are free.
If we calculate the current price then its not a big difference. for example if one having family of 2 kids under 10, one above 4 and 2 adults then the bill will be £ 32.50 with old price but if you go for new price infact you paying less it will be £ 30.00. Infact they had lowered their price but people need awareness. I will keep going as I love their food.
lovely , fantastic and gorgeous food. fabulous dinning and excellant staff, beats nawab by miles even thou its smaller. so peacefull and relaxing place. love love love it.

Back in the day, the food was nice, the atmosphere was peaceful and I enjoyed going there.
WELL NOT ANYMORE!!!!!
they used to serve a buffet upstairs in a small but nice enough place, but since the restaurant became more popular, its difinitely let its standards slip. Now they moved it downstairs into a much larger space that is nowhere near as nice or peaceful. The customers it now attracts also leave something to be desired. You can't walk in there without being stared at by some creep or the other, and the amount of dirty looks you get just for minding your own business and having a meal. The buffet is longer than it used to be but thats not a good thing at all. because there are more customers, theres always a queue longer than the ones in primark at midday saturday. That, and the tables (which looked like they'd been acquired from a clearout in an old peoples home) made it look like a homeless shelter full of people waiting for a bowl of soup. The food on offer was disgusting, fruit salad with clumpy youghurt (minging), dried up leaves (salad), all the chutney was finished and they werent putting more out, old crusty starters were next and were followed by bowl after bowl of watery gungy stuff (curry I assume) that looked unbelievably unappetizing. Dessert was just as gross, and people let thier kids loose in the middle of all that. Horrible experience and I would not advise it!
engineer200080 Mr Shazii after reading your comments I can say that you do not know how are the traditional Indian/Paki curries made and served. If you have been to somewhere else and what ever they served you bad or worst you assume it is like that. One thing I can say is that AL-Waalis is the only restaurant which gives you everyday freshly cooked food. As I saw myself that the staff of Al-Waalis after 11:00 eat the same food which left in buffet after closing and i also saw them taking same food home while standing in the car park. So I totally disagree your views. The big ques are the sign of good, delicious and freshly served food.

sparkinkevents Guys I think you are replying to a comment from 2010 almost a year apart. :) Negative comments only help raise a profile.. See the place has finally pulled it all together again so no harm done!!

An absolute joke! It used to be satisfactory before when the buffet was upstairs, but now that they've brought it downstairs you have to queue up to get to the awkwardly situated buffet area, which is so degrading. On top of that, the food has gone downhill: they put rose water in fruit and serve bad meat. In addition, they only have a small variety of food to choose from. Not to mention that some of the chapal kebabs had gone off. If you're going to do a buffet, up the price by all means but at least serve decent food.
engineer200080 Mr Badsha have you been to Nawab? In Nawab you also have to wait in Ques to get food when it is busy. It is very obvious that when restaurant is busy then you have to wait in que. The important thing is when you get to the buffet you must get the food. If food is their for you then its all ok. If by the time you reach their and they said sory finished then you can complain. Again the same point long ques are the sign of good, healthy, delicious and freshly made food.

engineer200080 Mr Sallu I think they got your point and reduce the price for kids to half £ 4.99.
If we calculate the current price then its not a big difference. for example if one having family of 2 kids under 10, one above 4 and 2 adults then the bill will be £ 32.50 with old price but if you go for new price infact you paying less it will be £ 30.00. ur right hun…in my opinion its de best restaurant wit dat kind of food
Absolutely gorgeous food, especially for vegetarians. We’ve eaten here 3 times now, and I love it. If had had the cash I’d eat here every week.
It’s a fairly new restaurant, converted from the old infamous Palace Night Club - used to be a theatre/cinema in the distant past. It’s clean, and very quite for a restaurent of it’s size, a tad too quiet, but I daresay this will change as people learn of it.
The staff are extremely helpful and friendly and the food is to die for - wonderful flavour - have tried 6+ dishes so far, all spot on for taste, and the portions sizes are genrous to say the least. It’s by far the best Indian food I’ve ever had, and that’s saying something.
It’s main competitor is the ridiculously sucessful Nawaab, which in my opinion, it outclasses by miles on food quality and taste and for veggies, the food cost is slightly cheaper for a meal, at least for everyone I eat out with. Big advantage it has over it is you don’t have to wait to eat, or have to fight to get to the food counter only to find they’ve run out of your favourite dish. Meat eaters will find it a little more expensive BUT at some point in October '08 (not sure of exact date) they’ll be starting an all-you-can-eat buffet, which will be cheaper.
They aren’t licenced, and the main restaurant is up some serious stairs, I need a stick to walk and do struggle getting up there but it’s well worth the effort.
It has a banqueting hall which I believe is bookable for private functions.
If the buffet is as good as the dishes I’ve tried from them so far, it will be amazing!
If you need to find it, the car park is behind the shops on the north side (manchester side) of the junction of Stockport Rd (A6) and Albert Rd. It’s very near the train station so easy to get to if coming by train, and there are tons of buses nearby (A6 for most 192 197 191 168- get off at Natwest in Lev, and Albert Road for 197 191 169 168 171 172 178 get off at Lev station).
Please visit so it stays open, so I can continue to enjoy it’s scrummy food!!!!!!! (drooling at thought)
sabbah04 I went yesterday on Eid was so packed out but still the service was fantastic. The food was fresh and today im sending all my friends to eat there.
