6 reviews of Putney Station in English
Definitaly needs to be refubrished. However it does serve its purposes and is located right in the middle of Putney and gives access to plenty of buses just outside the station.
A busy station in southwest london. It was one of the station with southwest trains. You could go to waterloo side or reading side.Only two platforms in the station. There was also a tube station nearby, but the disadvantage is you couldn’t change within the station.
This is a simple sation which is very bust at rush hour. It is particularly useful for London Waterloo trains and if you want to get to Richmond. Not so useful if you want get to wimbledon but they do pass now and again. The station also has a nice flowershop outside and a papershop which is useful if you need reading material on a train or a snack to get you home.
In my opinion the station could do with a renovation, as it looks pretty tatty in places. Then have actually started to repave some of the platforms so I hope this work will continue.
The entrance to the station causes bottlenecks, and you often have to queue just to go in and out of the barriers. The ticket machines frequently go out of services, causing the queues to be longer at the remaining machines. It is also worth noting that the only access to the platforms is by the stairs and there is no disabled access.
My tip when there are long queues are at the ticket machines is to check inside the station - the new single ticket machine inside often has no queue at all, and the queues for the counter often move much more quickly than those outside. You can also sometimes buy tickets from the staff at the gate - so it’s worth asking as this can save you some time.
Annoyingly you can’t use pre-pay oyster at this station, but when it is introduced I expect that everyone’s experience will be greatly improved.
There are snack and drink vending machines on platform 1, plus a small cafe on platforms 2 and 3.
An easy to navigate frequently served station, if a little in the need of a refurb. Putney station is served only by South West Trains and the primary services from here serve London Waterloo, Vauxhall, Clapham Junction, Richmond, Kingston, Twickenham, Teddington, Windsor, Reading, Bracknell and Ascot.
It only has four platforms so it is quite straight forward until the moment that an announcement is made and your service from platform 2 is now coming in on platform 1 or delayed meaning that the train two minutes later on platform 1 is going to arrive first and get you to London Waterloo first. These moments, which happen about 10-14 times a day, mostly during rush hour add to the in station congestion, so be warned.
Maybe as part of the refurb they could add an underground subway down the far end of the platform to reduce this congestion. Finally, this is the Putney Railway station, East Putney tube and Putney Bridge tube are elsewhere. Putney bridge is down the far end of the high street and over the bridge to the right (10-15mins walk) and East Putney is on Lower Richmond Road (5-8mins walk) the road that is beside the station entrance. East Putney located under the bridge you will see in the distance.
Quite a small station, but stopped at by many trains. Staff are helpful, but queues can be very long to buy tickets. Situated at the top of Putney High Street, easy place to catch a bus, walk to the tube or get a bite to eat. The station is also clean and a nice place to stop on your journey.
