It seems that City Laser Group had no intention to provide the service I paid them for.
I had only a patch test. Couple of days before my appointment a cancellation email arrived claiming that it was due to “IPL Laser Machine being taken for its renewal service”. I waited patiently for over a week, when no one contacted me regarding rescheduling the appointment, I decided to contact them myself. Surely enough, at the beginning there was only voicemail, after couple of days just the message that the number is unavailable (I was trying to reach them in different times of the day over couple of weeks). Just wrot an email to Groupon to claim a refunr. This is just outraging!

RIP OFF
I was very very disappointed to go on my 4th appointment to find that City Laser were no longer at the Harley street premises, and I was to contact Groupon!! Obviously i was very upset and had wasted half a day travelling to London that I emailed them back and phoned City Laser, with no joy of a reply or explanation what so ever. After a week of waiting from City Laser I contacted Groupon and now I am waiting for my refund to come through. Groupon were very understanding they told me City Laser were having a few issues and if I wanted to wait and have my treatment after they have been resolved?? I didnt want to deal with a company that operates the way that they do!! I am now waiting for my refund, what a rip off by City Laser!!

Oh, god! I wished I would have read all these comments before buying my voucher bia Groupon! I only can warn evryone from going to the City Laser Group n (Harley Street)!!! This is simply robbery!!! I actually never received a treatment as it was impossible to get one! My emails have been ignored for ages and when I finally got an appointment – I arrived the day, on time but the therapist was not even aware of me having an appointment – so I left again, which was highly annoying as I had left work early to be on time! It got even worse when I complained via email – I literally got accused of not having shown up – which was an absolute lie!!! From then on I just received very abusive emails from the ‘management’ everytime I tried to resolve the issue. I got my money back from GROUPON but as I had purchased additional teatments I kind of gave up to ever see my money again!!! I wish I could give NO STARS…!!!! This was the worst customer experience ever!

This is basically a pirate outfit and now they appear to be trying to shut down and move. I can’t believe that I’ve been had so completely – another Groupon disaster!

I also had a voucher for this place, I have been to 2 sessions, but I don’t see the point in continuing the treatment -waste of £100.
I am having 2 areas done and they take 10 mins to do all three, including getting dressed/undressed – hardly worth doing!!!! I have had treatment somewhere else before on 1 area that took 30mins and they took the time to actually get all the hair. The results from city laser group are not noticeable, the only thing it seems to do it use up my time.
The therapist has too many people to get through so has no time for talking to you and I have seen people turning up 5mins late only to be told they can’t have their appointments because they are late, I think they welcome this as they wouldn’t get through people otherwise.
The booking system is so terrible, you can only book online and it’s extremely difficult to book, you can only see 3 available sessions on one day at any one time.

I had a similar experience to those above. This company is very shady and has zero customer service. I purchased a Groupon Voucher and went in for a patch test. The clinic was in a basement and had very low hygiene standards. There was no paper on the bed which is changed after every session, as in other salons. The therapist who was to do my patch test told me it was her first day on the job which made me wary. Sure enough the patch test burned me and the machine they used looked like it was on the verge of breaking down.
I called the same day to request a refund as there was no way I was going to go ahead with the treatment. I never got a call back so I basically called their reception everyday for a week and still never got a call back to resolve the issue. I even sent a couple emails to their supposed ‘management’ and never received a response. I finally went to directly to Groupon who agreed to refund my initial voucher but I am still owed an additional £60 which I paid directly to City Laser Group for an additional area before I had the patch test done. It has been over a month since I initially contacted them and it is clear that they have no intention of responding my request for a refund so I am currently disputing this charge with my bank. If that doesn’t work than I would be wiling to take this matter further and take legal measures on the basis of principal. This company is getting away with atrocious service and basically robbery. Stay away!

Hi Londonite, good luck with getting your £60 back. I am going through exactly the same process at the moment with my bank! Please let me know on here if you have any joy and if not, how you’re going to proceed with taking the matter further, as I will be doing the same if necessary. I agree, it’s a matter of principle! catclaires

I am also having problems – think it’s worth taking this to watchdog/the BBC consumer show. I think we should log how many people have been defrauded and take it to the police small fraud team!

Hi birdmpas, I’d be happy to go along with this. I have been lucky enough to get my money back (via Groupon for the voucher cost and via a Visa chargeback for the additional treatments) but can’t believe how many people are having problems and have been defrauded by this company. A couple of months ago I sent a link to this reviews page to the Groupon customer service team – never received a reply and I know the deal is an old one but I thought they should see for themselves what’s been going on. I can just see this company trying to re-open under a different name in the future and publicity via Watchdog etc should help to stop that!

I think someone should definitely take this matter to watchdog or some similar show. My bank was unable to refund me the 60 pounds so I basically gave up trying to get my money back that way. I am considering taking the matter to small claims court but that could take forever and be nothing but time and cash consuming. I would happily give my 60 pounds to whoever could get it back from me!
It infuriates me that they are getting away with robbing people…it’s not even the money, its the principal!
I would also be happy to participate in taking this matter to someone who can do something about this fraudulent company! -

Hi Catclaires, I think they already have! There’s a good chance it’s working so well for them they just keep doing it. Their clinic in Harley St just shut down and their website closed, and now there’s a new company opened up: http://www.silktouchlondon.com/. Is it just me or does the navigation and the copy seem a little familiar…?
Apparently someone else on QYPE bought an offer from Groupon for them http://www.groupon.co.uk/deals/west-london/silk-touch-lon..., and upon being informed the clinic wasn’t open yet , was sent to City Laser Group for their patch test. So it’s all sounding decidedly fishy to me! The offer is pretty much the same as the CLG one too, which makes me wonder how much effort Groupon really put into checking out their clients. You’d think if something like this happened and so many negative comments were going up i the public sphere that involved their name, they would do a bit of investigation. Even if they do the most basic analysis of their online marketing and profile they wold have seen all this, so I think they just don’t care!
I sent an email with all this to Watchdog, the that BBC Radio consumer show, taxing standards and the small fraud team for the London police, so if anyone shows any interest I’ll see if they could do with speaking with the rest of the guys on here.
As for my experience, I was a complete numpty and did an upgrade in cash (the girl who did my patch test with was very nice but the machine wasn’t working so I went to the cash machine like a fool). I don’t expect that I’ll get the money back at all, but they need to be put out of business for good.

Hi birdmpas, that’s terrible – the silktouch website definitely looks more than a bit familiar! I don’t think Groupon check out their clients either (I will write to them again about this). It’s fantastic that you’ve taken this further, though – I really hope someone replies to you, and do keep us updated as I’m sure lots of people on this site will be interested!
It’s such a shame you paid by cash but you weren’t to know that they were scam artists – I’d have done the same! At least we’ll all be more cynical next time…
I can’t comment on the actual treatment from City Laser Group because I never actually got to see a therapist. But this was the worst customer service I have ever received – bordering on abusive – and there is no way I’d let them put a laser anywhere near me! I also had a Groupon voucher.
I showed up to my appointment and learned I had been double booked and that I could not be seen. There was no apology for this inconvenience (there is no dedicated receptionist for the clinic (only one for the adjacent building) – and the clinician just claimed to be busy and hung up on me.
I immediately wrote to the booking agent who was outrageously aggressive – it was bizarre – she sounded truly unstable, and her email manner – beyond the inappropriate content – was incredibly unprofessional. Thankfully, Groupon read the thread of emails from her and quickly gave me a refund for this awful experience!

I booked via groupon at London – Harley street branch.
Set in a basement – no explanation as to what to expect etc. I was lucky I had already had one treatment at another salon who had explained the whole process..also i noticed they were very slapdash and tried to rush through the treatment. When i had it done properly they actually put on a cooling gel and then done the treatment to cause as little discomfort as possible, and the results were noticable after 1 treatment. At City laser group no cooling gel was applied only a icepack for 2/3 seconds and the skin was zapped direct. It hurts!! and after 4 sessions i have noticed nothing has happened to hair, but my skin has burnt. This was a total waste of the £119 I paid!! I wouldn’t recommend City laser group to anyone. There is no positives from my experience that I could tell anyone.
Don’t waste your money here, pay that bit extra and go somewhere else!!

This is a laser hair removal clinic, supposedly with branches in London, Manchester, Birmingham and Glasgow, according to the website. I believe it’s also been known as the Harley Street Clinic in London.
I purchased a Groupon voucher for 6x sessions at the Manchester clinic and have had a patch test and 2x sessions. The treatment has definitely been working, but I wasn’t impressed by the quality of care there. I am also having laser hair removal on a different area at another clinic (Liverpool Laser), and the level of professionalism at this other clinic is on another level – for example, much more detailed notes, testing, etc, as well as much more care taken to minimise pain (I suffered a lot from pain at City Laser Group, and even had some burn marks in one area), and it’s a rule in the Liverpool clinic that you have to wear protective goggles because of the laser – I never even saw any goggles at City Laser Group, despite having treatment on my face! I’d also say that the treatment at City Laser Group felt very rushed – very much as if the (rather unfriendly) therapist was trying to get it done as quickly as possible so she could move on to the next person. Finally, the therapist always tried to book me my next appointment only 2 weeks after the previous one, which from what I’ve read is far too soon – you need 4-6 weeks in between treatments to target all the actively growing hairs.
The final nail in the coffin came when I tried unsuccessfully to reschedule a cancelled 3rd session via City Laser Group’s email appointments system, and eventually phoned them up after a couple of weeks as I wasn’t getting any replies. The receptionist went to look into it, then came back to the phone to tell me that she’d just found out the Manchester clinic had ceased trading! No one had bothered to tell me this, and I’m now in the process of attempting to secure a partial refund. I would avoid the company in any of the other cities – probably not to be trusted!

I paid £90 extra too. Shall we all contact someone like Watchdog to help us find them and try to recover our £?
