strengthofabear: “Came here on New Years Day for Lunch with Ruiz and others, ended up staying till 11pm. Good jukebox. Helpful staff. Nice beer garden. Good location. Food was very average, standard pub stuff at best and not a lot of choice.” more...5 reviews of The Britannia in English

Now, you would think that to a whisky enthusiast, a pub offering 80 odd single malts would be an enormous boon.
For some reason the odd Mexican standoff at the bar where we tried to pick a whisky while the barman repeatedly said "You should try Ardbeg, it's really different. Smoky." weirded me out a little. Accompanied by the quietest Led Zeppelin you've ever heard.
You would probably find it challenging to get a good vibe going in here.
I hung out at the Britannia yesterday and had a great time, the music is just at the right level so you can actually hear your mates, the whiskey board of 50+ types to choose from is a nightmare for anyone who can't make up their minds easily (like me) and the food was simple but tasty....it was easy to get a seat, which is always a bonus. A great hide away from the more crowded places around Borough Market.

Great pub offering a great selection of Scotch. I would guess that they have over 50 on the list.
Friendly staff and great ales make this perfect for a quiet drink during the week.
A lovely pub in a less than lovely area! It’s tucked away from the main road, so you have to look hard for it and aren’t likely to just stumble across it. Inside is warm and welcoming, with some comfortable sofas in the back area and tables with bench-style seating in the front of the bar. Always been quite busy any time I have been, but not as packed as some of the bars nearer to London Bridge station usually are. The food here is good, and portions are quite large. There is a good selection of wine, and Bombadier on tap, as well as an extensive range of whiskeys.
Nice chilled out pub. Huge selection of whiskeys and a broad menu of standard pub food with a little more flare than normal. I believe all the food is home made. Bombardier is on tap, and numerous other beers.
The Britannia has a outside area on the left hand side, but this is not terribly attractive as it’s just off the pavement in a paving slabbed area. It looks like it used to be a parking space. Inside there is plenty of seating, although you can still have trouble finding a seat on Friday lunchtimes occasionally. The manager recommends reserving a table at busy times.
They don’t play music, so this would be a good place if you wanted a chat. One of the better pubs in the area, especially for food.
