5 reviews of Mango Indian Restaurant in English
I think this place is great, it's one of the nicest Indian restaurants I've been to in a long time, it's tucked away down a side street but it's always nicely busy giving a pleasant atmosphere.
The food is always spot on, they have a great selection of interesting dishes, as well as the usual favourites.
I've been here on at least 5 different occasions with different groups of friends, and we've always been happy with the great food and the the friendly and efficient service.
Be warned though, if you tell them you like your curry hot, it will be hot!
Extremely disappointed with the experience I had at MANGO TREE. Calling this Indian restaurant is like insulting Indian food. Although it smells good in there, none of the dishes we tried were authentic. Indian food is known for its cooking in the spices. This is the first Indian restaurant I came across london that serves under cooked meat. My girlfriend threw up as soon as we got to the hotel and I had a bad night. Never in my life did Indian food do that to me... And above all, I gave my girlfriend huge build up about this place and we drove two hours to get there and we left with nothing but disappointment... Neither the service is good nor the food... A lifetime experience as to how you can screw up Indian food. When we left, the gate was open for the roof, so we went up there to see the view. and Im supprised the place is still open dirty extracter fans, flies and rats. IT SMELT LIKE someone DIED.... will be reporting them to envirormental helath.
Just tried today. Very good food. Will definetly go again. The price is bit expensive for that area but work every penny.
I loved it at the Mango Tree, where I went for a Curry, we booked a table for three, we sat near Andy Murry, I went for a little pee, got bitten by a flea, felt like I was sitting near the sea, and it was sunny!
The Mango tree sits tucked away on Redcross way, only a couple of minutes walk away from Vinopolis, Borough Market and the Thames. The restaurant only opened about a year ago, but I’ve been visiting many times since then.
Compared to some of the other Indian restaurant locally, the Mango tree has a more attractive, and modern interior, with leather seats. The glass front to the restaurant lets in plenty of light during the daytime. Relaxing modern music with an Indian influence plays in the background (similar to Talvin Singh, although the waiter claimed it wasn’t).
The staff are really nice and welcoming, and every time we go back they treat us like old friends, although I have no idea if they actually recognise me or not!
The menu is pretty big and includes many of the standard dishes you find in most Indian restaurants, but have a look at the specials section for the real treats. My only criticism is that on my last couple of visits I’ve ordered lamb dishes and found the lamb to be too tough. Other dishes on offer have been much better. The flavour of the sauces are excellent. Prices are about average for this area, with main course curries costing around £7, specials £10.
Small chocolates and a hot towel are provided on paying the bill.
