2 reviews of Union Theatre Cafe in English
Now £1.90 for a bacon bagel and a latte - still a very good deal I think.
I've never been to the theatre here, though the productions always look interesting, but I visit the cafe daily as it's just downstairs from my work.
It's the friendliest, most homely and informal little place, as the previous reviewer said just a collection of tables and chairs under the railway arch at the entrance to the theatre. The main offer is filled bagels and baguettes, teas and coffees. I think you can get penguin biscuits and apples too, but that's about it. There are newspapers (quality ones) scattered on the tables and lots of flyers advertising theatrical happenings around London.
The two guys who run the place are actors and you will always hear theatrical chat as you sit here drinking your coffee. Sometimes there are rehearsals or auditions going on - I overheard the auditions for the female roles in an all-male production of The Pirates of Penzance the other day, it was lovely!
£1.70 for a latte and a hot bacon bagel? A great deal! Perhaps not the best quality of either, but still very tasty and for the price you can’t really complain - I often stop by on the way to work.
This place has a kind of hippy hangout feel to it, and is comprised of a little sheltered area with the counter and a bunch of old tables and chairs, next to the railway arch and entrance to the Union Street Theatre. Flowers and artwork decorate the inside, making it a popular haunt in both the morning and evening.
