Burger Baby

The best burger in town! I give it 3 because of the Ketchup and Mayo that you have to get up every time you need some and go to the really annoying squeezable dispenser!

No doubt about it, Burger Baby makes the finest burgers in Frankfurt. I've been to Meat Us and Die Kun Die Lacht a few times already, and I've liked them, but this restaurant is entirely in a class of its own. The menu is small and unpretentious (albeit lacking the rudimentary milkshake), and the prices are low. Pick your burger size, toppings and sauce, and then sit back and wait.

You can see the chef go about their business in the open-plan kitchen, weighing and assembling the ingredients with precision and efficiency. The burgers we were presented with were juicy and succulent, the meat grilled to perfection and sandwiched in a fresh spongy bun and salad. I had my burger with swiss cheese, jalapenos and chipotle sauce, my dining partner had cheddar cheese and bacon, and both of us came away satisfied. 

BUT there is trouble in paradise. A fly in the tomato relish, so to speak. Upon entry, you're going to be hit in the face by the smoke and stink of grilled meat. The extractor fan over the grill seems to be on the fritz, and the result is that the entire restaurant is clogged with the smell of burger fat. This isn't a problem if you're prepared to take it away or eat outside, but it will certainly detract from your enjoyment of your burger if you choose to sit at a table inside.

Hopefully this is a temporary issue and will be resolved shortly. I'll certainly be back again to find out.

Great American style burgers in the tradition of the best US burger joints.  The owner went to college in Los Angeles, and is familiar not only with the fast food chains like Jack in the Box, but also the higher end places like In-N-Out.  He said he's getting his beef from a Frankfurt butcher, from free-range cattle.  When you order a medium-rare burger and don't drown it in toppings, you can really tell that he's using top-quality beef.  He also is making a point of importing top-quality customer service ideas, and getting to know his customers, especially repeat business, so your loyalty will be rewarded over time.  I found the limited menu to be a benefit, as they do one thing, and do it extremely well, and even keep the costs below a fast food chain!  As for economies of scale, he said he's planning on opening up several others within Frankfurt, but only if he can visit every restaurant every day (not just once a week), to ensure the kitchen and customer service quality standards are kept higher than any competitors.  For me, the great customer service is the tie-breaker that makes Burger Baby my favorite over Heroes, Meat Us, Die Kuh Die Lacht, Chicago Meatpackers, and Yours.  The fact that it's also cheaper is just amazing, and means I'm happy to support him with my business, by taking my friends there, and by writing this review, so hopefully they'll be around long enough for you to become a loyal fan, too!  Only potential drawbacks -- nothing for your vegetarian friends here (nothing but burgers!), no toilets, and no alcohol served.  Very limited seating, but take-out is always an option.
