I went to the stall with my boyfriend who is Portuguese. He highly recommends it. I found the food to be wholesome, particularly the feijoada and I love the pasteis de bacalhau (cod fishcakes). their pasteis de nata is to die for! Prices are reasonable too. Definitely give it a try, it is,as the previous reviewer said, a warm friendly place to eat.

If you’ve walked through St. Nick’s market, you may well have seen this unassuming restaurant/cafe and not thought much of it. I’ve tried all the food in St Nick’s Market. i wouldn’t bother with the pasta place, the Carribean place is good, the morrocan was awful…but the Portuguese place is very special to me. This is good old-fashioned good cooking. Delicious and fresh. It’s the sort of food my grandmother would have made, but she was German and these dishes are Portuguese. My grandmother was one of the finest cooks whose table I’ve ever had the pleasure to eat from. Wonderful stews, a great fish pie, yummy soups. The woman cooks all this food herself. She has nationally famous pasteis de nata, those crunchy, buttery egg tarts that go so well with her fantastic coffee. I don’t usually even drink coffee, but I have to have these when I go here. I’ve taken lots of people, including my neices. Children can be hard to please but they love coming and eat it all. Not so good for veggies at the weekend, but veg soups during the week. Good value and good company. If you’re ever feeling lonely, this is a nice place to eat at. It’s the kind of food to warm the cockles of your heart.
