1) we waited a long time for the sandwiches to arrive. one of us had to see where they had got to.
2) They were absolutely awful, quite dry possibly stood around for a while.
3) Terrible quality for price.
4) Badly presented on plate.
We will never come back and neither will our family even though it was in a lovely location.
Unfortunately we could not complain in person we had to catch the boat back.

Fantastic location by Allington Lock and it's great when the sun is out to sit and drink outside by the river. Family friendly with lots of indoors and outside seating and the choice during the day of bar food or the restuarant. Foodwise it's typical Beefeater fare, have had 1 good dinner and one ok one where my meat was not cooked how I ordered it.. Had the garden bar food one lunchtime (prawn baguette) which was pretty mediocre. The cheap margarine used overpowered the prawns and sauce so was almost inedible. Can be pricey depending on what you order. Overall a generally nice place for a drink and or meal especially when the sun's out but steer clear of the baguettes.

Great pub for food and drink. Food can be hit and miss depending on what time you go. I've had one of the best and one of the worst steaks here.
Generally sitting outside by the river in the sunshine is as enjoyable experiance.

Excellent place to eat with partner, with family or friends, lots of nooks and crannies to be seated with lots of people or away from people. Staff and usually excellent and you can even get the boat there and back from Maidstone Town Centre, or even walk. perfect setting

Good for what it is. If you want a Beefeater in nice surroundings, then this is the one to go to.

This place is really only to be recommended for its location. The food is bland/cook chill beefeater type fare and nothing special at average to high prices, which is a shame because in the 70s and 80s this was the place to eat. i remember going here as a child with my parents on high days and holy days for a treat. In the summer its lovely to sit and drink a beer and watch the world go by… I also remember a boyfriend taking me canoeing here and me losing the canoe into the lock - and boyfriend a couple of days later!!!

frenchkeith, 10 July 2010:
The Malta Inn is set in a lovely location by the river in large premises offering both a restaurant and bar.
Service at the restaurant regarding getting a table is quite quick during the week but at weekends this time goes up drastically as more people flock in for meals. Your best choice is to book before hand to avoid the typical half hour wait.
The menu is actually quite limited with the menu mainly dominated by the beef options so not too good if you’re a vegeterian. Other then beef you get a few choices of chicken breast, sausage and mash and other pub fare as well as lamb and fish. Deserts range from ice cream to warmer deserts such as apple pie. During busy times service to your table is slow.
The bar itself is quite well manned and you will get your drink quickly unless the bar is really busy. There’s a wide selection of drinks from spirits to soft drinks.
If it’s a nice night you can also choose to sit out by the river and enjoy yourself in style.

Good pub. I find the bar area always busy especially in summer. The only let down I think is that now they have had a refurb they don’t have a great deal of bar food and you have to go upto the resturant to eat. Service is ok - can’t say much for the owners wife - rude and lacking in customer service.

Good family pub, very spacious with a Beefeater menu, lots of parking and a riverside setting. It hasn’t got much to offer anyone else but if you want somewhere to take the kids on a Sunday afternoon while you and the wife have a drink then this is ideal. Gets very busy during times when riverside weekend drinking is at its most appealing. Also offers a fiendishly difficult pub quiz.

Nice place to go and sit by the river with a beer, wine or a coffee. Very good food but parking can be a problem as it gets very busy. Nice walks from here as well as river trips to Maidstone

Have been here just for a drink and more recently for a meal. Let me start by saying it is one of the best and most relaxing locations for a drink. It is situated right by Allington Lock and is just lovely, particularly during the spring and summer months.
You can enjoy “pub grub” if you want something casual and can eat inside or outside by the water. If you prefer something a little more formal, go upstairs for a meal - you won’t be disappointed. It is one of the “Beefeater” chain, but the service is great and the food was prepared nicely and was fresh and hot. All in all it was great and we will be returning.
