Vapiano, Deutz, Cologne

Vapiano is a very good and convenient franchising restaurant.

The interior, designed by famous Italian designer Matteo Thun is everthing but cheap: simple, comfortable and elegant.
Tables are shared and no reservation is possible. The restaurant is usually pretty packed everyday between 7pm and 9pm and tends to be a bit too loud, but it’s still ok for a chat. The chill out area and the tables outside are a bit more quiet.

If you are ok with picking up your food yourself, this is a great place to be. Your order at the counter and a remote alarm tells you when the pizza is ready. This is how Vapiano offers good food in a few minutes at a relatively low price. There are only few waiters walking around to check that everything is fine and to take the empty dishes away.

The pizzas are pretty good, especially the dough. The toppings tend to adapt a bit to a German / International taste. As Italian I love the fact that on every table you’ll find basel, oil and spicy oil. At the counter you’ll also find chili and oregano.
Salads are good too and so are pastas according to my friend. Pizza is so good that I never managed to order the pasta ;-) which is made in restaurant with organic products.

The only negative point IMHO are the wines, pretty expensive and not always of the best quality.

Otherwise a very enjoyable, fast and inexpensive restaurant which still offers pretty good quality. Definitely one of my favourite places for pizza in Cologne.
