Review of Enfield Lettings from 16 January 2013

I wrote a negative review of Enfields Lettings a few months ago, which I have now taken down because they threatened to sue me for it, and even called me to harass me about it. This tells you the kind of people they are. Anyway, here is an outline of my awful experience with them. All of which I have evidence to back up. Firstly, I have spoken to the Citizens Advice Bureau, Shelter and the advice centre at my university who all helped me with my case (the University has dealt with them before and has some other horror stories, but they're not for me to divulge). Firstly, they refused to give me the name and contact details of my landlord (I have emails to prove that they would not) which is illegal, and myself and my university checked with all the deposit holding companies numerous time and NONE of them had my deposit registered with them, which is also illegal (I have all the proof of this too if they try and tell me I'm lying again, as I'm sure they will be reading this). And yet they still refuse to give me all of my deposit back (which they also made us pay in cash by the way. A fact that shocked the Citizens Advice Bureau). As for the state of the property, on the day we moved in it was filthy. I had damp in my room that was never sorted even after we emailed them a number of times, my housemates and I were left locked out on numerous occasions because they would not fix the lock, I had a wasps nest outside my window which they would not sort out either. The state of the house when we moved in was disgusting, and when we tried to ask questions about when the issues would be sorted, on the day we signed our contract, they actually said 'I'm afraid the question and answer session is over'. They also said to my housemate on another occasion 'What do you expect for the price you are paying?'. I started legal action against them and the only reason I am not continuing to take them to court is because I just want them out of my life now. Save yourself a lot of hassle and money and do not use them.

Check their google map rating, you will know their truth. Most rude staff ever with no ethic and money frauds. The nice ratings have been done by their own people. Trust me avoid them.

Good service, nice flat. We had a problem with a leak in the toilet but guys from Enfields send a plumber straight ahead. Previous landlord was so useless that simplest thing could take him weeks to sort out!

Thorough and Efficient I have been very impressed by Enfields Lettings. Having been screwed over by two subsequent landlords/agents by mistaking lack of documentation for leniency, I now thoroughly appreciate the paperwork which meant that we were the only house out of our whole year in college to get back the full deposit. Even more impressively, when I rang up two years later to ask for a copy of the old tenancy agreement they went out of their way to be friendly and helpful, replying promptly and sending it to numerous email addresses when the one I gave them initially couldn’t take the file size. Although it can seem somewhat overwhelming or condescending as a student, it’s well worth the effort of going through everything in detail – it’s protecting you as much as it is them, and you know exactly where you stand come the end of the tenancy.

Strange because even when my friends and I were actually living in their property, they refused to give us any paperwork. Including copies of the tenancy agreement and contract. Which by law they’re obliged to. They wouldn’t tell us the name of our landlord, which again is breaking the law. AND didn’t hold our deposits in a holding scheme. Again, breaking the law. So they are being taken to court. They should receive their court summons in around two weeks time.
