strengthofabear: “Came here on New Years Day for Lunch with Ruiz and others, ended up staying till 11pm. Good jukebox. Helpful staff. Nice beer garden. Good location. Food was very average, standard pub stuff at best and not a lot of choice.” more...5 reviews of The Birdcage in English
Love this place! Although it’s Stamford Hill really, not Stokey! Give my stomping-ground its due, it doesn’t half need it ;)
Also – good pop quiz.
Stokies nicest bar? Nice is a pejorative though so maybe coolest? The sort of decor and ambience that you’d expect in Angel without the crowds or the debit on your oyster. If I were single, this would be my little date place.
Staff are cool and I LIKE the table front on the high st.
Beers are a bit pricey, especially being oppostie a morrisons, but at least they match the bar they are served in, unlike a few close venues.
This used to be practically my loungeroom when I lived around the corner. But over the course of five years or so it became a very different place - no longer is the lovely pub grub!
But they do still serve brilliant cocktails and the staff are ultra-friendly and happy to make anything you ask for!
This is a good place to meet before heading out on a night on the tiles, and a good place to come back to on Sunday to nurse your hangovers!
The DJ they normally have playing here is really good!
The one thing this place lacks is a decent beer garden - only the most hardened of smokers would want to sit outside here with the heavy traffic trundling by!
the bircage in stoke newington, just near the train station, is formerly sister pub to the spurstow, the londesborough, and the three crowns, and it is similar to those other places in feel except that it no longer serves brilliant gastro food (which is a shame as it was lovely). They also have lovely staff, sofas, and big tables, ideal for a sunday comedown with your mates. They do totally brilliant bloody marys, the staff tend to be knowledgable about the large selection of drinks on offer, and of course they serve that all important BEER.
This is an excellent local pub in the Stoke newington area. The pub is a one off and has plenty of character. I highly recommend it.
Outside drinking is available but as its on the high street I dont recommend it, too much pollution..except if you need to smoke.
They have a DJ in the evenings and it does get crowded. If you want a quiet drink go in the day it’s ideal or early evening. This pub seems to keep to old opening times.. You will not find it open early afternoon on a Saturday or befor e3pm in the week.
Overall its very nice but the food is over priced and really not that special, give it a go if you really want to, but its good for a few drinks with friends and a chill out on Sunday.
