Hôtel du Théâtre

This hotel is located conveniently a short walk from Place Bellecourt, overlooking the Theatre des Celestins. Given that and its very reasonable price, I was pleasantly surprised by the spacious bedroom (en suite with less-than-full-length bath). There was also free wifi, and complimentary toiletries although few other extras - hardly to be expected for the price and 2* rating.

Breakfast was good: fresh orange juice, choice of hot drink, and a basket of croissant, pain au chocolat and rolls with nutella, honey or jam. Staff were pleasant and helpful; reception is open until 11pm.

There was, however, one disadvantage: the stairs. There is no lift; reception is on the second floor, with rooms on the floors above that, meaning that you have at least three flights of stairs to climb with your luggage. Fine if you’re fit…
