AVOID! Tiny, well overpriced and very very smelly (dead butterflies lying around everywhere hence the smell as they rot away). A no go area with kids, very distressing.

Review of Stratford-Upon-Avon Butterfly Farm from 5 September 2010

I like the butterfly farm but it is expensive to get in. Once you have bought your ticket, you can go in and out all day but we only spent about 40 minutes in there. It is a lot of money for such a short time. I guess we could have gone back in but we had seen everything, took pictures and even watched a brand new butterfly emerge! It's ok if you don't mind things flying around and landing on you. It did freak my kids out a bit as they hadn't realised how enclosed it all was. It's very hot in there which, obviously, it needs to be for the butterflies, but it's not so good for people! I like the fact that there is the arachnoland and insect land. Not everyone's thing but you don't have to go into those. Also, the location of the butterfly farm is almost the centre of Stratford so you can go for a picnic in the park or into town in the afternoon and return to the farm later on or explore other things in the area.
There are no toilets at the butterfly farm though but there are public toilets in one of the car parks behind The Ripple Cafe. There is plenty of parking but they are all Pay and Display. I think most of them charged £1 per hour up to 4 hours and then £10 for the full day so it could work out to be an expensive day out. So, I would recommend taking a picnic!

Although a tad expensive The Butterfly Farm is a very enjoyable day out aslong as your not freaked out by butterflies sitting on you. Its very good for children to learn the transformation from caterpillar to butterly and with a pond too and the resident parrot and iguana expect a few delighted squeals. Dont forget to visit the creepy crawlies room too, we missed it the first time we went, but visited a second and my son loved it. The gift shop i found quite reasonable and both my children managed to get something fun and affordable. Be warned its rather warm in there though

This is a great place. It is slightly expensive but it is well worth the money. The staff are all very friendly and extremely helpful. You should not wear many layers though as you get hot very quickly! It is easy to access and parking is available in the car parks that are next to the butterfly farm. A great day out especially for the children!!

This is a nice place to take the kids or for adults alike. It is very centrally located and is obviously best enjoyed on a summer’s day as you can then tie it up with other activities and a picnic. My kids dragged me here and i wasn’t convinced however it ended up being surprisingly fun and informative. the staff really knew their stuff and seemed genuinely passionate to be there. For 6 of us it was a liitle steep in price and I did baulk at this originally (maybe they could offer free parking or a discount on the pay and display nearby but this is one of the perils of stratford wherever you are), All in all a nice couple of hours as part of a bigger day trip

This place is amazing, I used to go as a child and now I get to go again with my nephew. It is really interesting to see all the different butterflies, and great fun to play spotting games.

As has already been said, it is hot in there (you would expect it to be), so layers are a must as you will feel the chill when you leave. Access is good for buggies and for disabled people and the parking is really close by.

All of the staff members are happy to stop and chat to you about the different butterflies and are cheerful and friendly. Definately a place worth visiting if you are in Stratford (and ideal if it is raining and the kids are driving you mad in the house …).

If you go to the butterfly farm keep your eyes out for the iguanas!! Good luck finding them!
Also take a camera! Some of the species are gorgeous. A real great place to go. See some exotic looking butterflies, with the most tremendous colour combinations.
Brillinat day trip out!
Go there!!

An amazing place to visit, with or without kids. Be prepared for tropical temperatures.
The green houses do look a bit shabby from the outside but the inside has a tardis like quality, you know, bigger on the inside.
Don’t forget to bring your camera, you will have so many opportunities to take fabulous pictures. Butterflies and hummingbirds will fly around you -see if you can spot their nests, the eggs are unbelievably tiny!
The building also houses other animals, I spotted iguanas, leaf cutter ants, spiders and other creepy crawlies.
Easy to get to, well signposted, you will have to pay and display to park your car by the riverbank which will allow you to just cross the river into the town.

Really great place to visit. Lots of beautiful butterflies to see, they even land on you!
And can you spot the pretty little quails and two iguanas that also live here??
The huge moths in one room were spectacular. Interesting for all ages and lovely and warm inside.

This is a short walk from Stratford town centre around/through the Bancroft Gardens. They have a huge array of butterflies as well as the catapillers and pupae in the emerging cage. There’s also arachnoland with amazing spiders and scorpians and if you keep your eyes open you might also see one or two of the iguanas that wander around freely in the farm! Depending on your interest you could spend 1/2 hour and wander round or if you’re more interested or have children you could while away a couple of hours no problem.

A lovely place to visit if you are in Stratford for the day and want something to do for a hour or so. Not somewhere you will be able to spend much more than an hour visiting though.

Saying that it is a lovely place to go and see all colorful and different sized butterflies. If like me you are terrified of spiders you might want to skip one room! A nice gift shop on the way out - when we went they had a prize draw sheet for kids to find the letters and fill in and they got a pencil and a poster just for completing it.

Bring a drink with you as it is hot in there! Also we teamed it with an ice cream after in the park opposite

This is a great place to visit for kids and adults alike. Looks fairly small but actually does take a while to get around it. Loads of different species that are absoloutely beautiful especially when they land on you. It really is worth going to, but wear layers as its quite warm inside compared to outside. Its also very informative for the kids explaining how they grow and feed etc. Easy to access with a single buggy, i now have a double and havent been around with it but will let you know when i get around to attempting it. Parking fairly easy and nearby but you have to walk into stratford if your looking for child friendly eateries unless your kids eat anything, unlike my monkeys
