Having a Lager after a busy day at Portsmouth University. Fantastic view across the harbour at night. Good service at the bar.

Been using it as a pub for many years,

Location – excellent,
Atmosphere – excellent,
Staff – friendly and helpful,
Upstairs seating food and Service – restaurant
Downstairs food and Service – find a table and go to the bar,

Food available – Fish and Chips in Paper, pub grub, sandwiches, Potatoes, wraps, baguettes..

After using the place for years, took my wife, we decided to have a posh prawn and Krayfish Baguette each – I must say it was excellent, well mine was,
wife found a hair on her plate after eating half her meal.. however we told the Bar Manager who immediately gave us a refund and apologised.. the only thing was, we hadn’t actually payed at that point so being honest we gave him the refund back and only paid for one meal.. he was very good about it, I am sure it was an isolated incident, and if you run a business with a high turnover you will always get the odd stray hair, for all we know it could have been from a customer..

but up until then it was really nice, and we had a window seat which is recommended.

I stop here on Saturday mornings for a pint and the occassional fish and chips after visiting Johnsons and Viviers for the weekend's seafood. Great view, great atmosphere, and the cod and chips are fine.

Not sure what the reviewers expect, but try to find fish and chips for less than 8 pounds or so in the Southeast.

Haven't been in the evening, but really enjoy Saturday mornings with a pint, a newspaper, and a view.

Very poor. Ordered 4 fish and chips. 1 Small which was like a fish finger!! the other 3 portions were very poor very small bad quality lots of bones and not much fish! Service again poor no cutlery when asked for some the reply was we are very busy tonight!!! The tables outside covered in bird poo and as the fish and chips is served in paper this is a health and safety concern. Glasses of previous diners left on tables and not cleared. Staff not interested.
However we noticed that the pub adjacent was serving very good fish and chips and on plates! Price 30.00 without drinks. Will we go again NO

A very warm welcome by the waitress , but was dismayed to find that not only were the cod's we had ordered came with skin, they also came with bones and the chips were quite soggy. One pint of lager and a brandy with coke and two cod and chips came to £27.20, will not be going back. I did phone up to enquire as to why there were bones in the cod and the charming lady went and spoke to the chef, and she came back and said that they could not guarantee that there would not be bones in the cod as they were quite difficult to remove.

This is a lovely pub in Old Portsmouth with great views across the water towards Gosport. The pub has a homely atmosphere with lots of comfy sofas and different areas leading off one another. It’s perfect for a date too!

The drinks are reasonably priced, with a selection of real ales as well as the regulation lagers on offer. The food is good and there is a fair selection on the menu. They also serve excellent fresh fish, which you can be sure has only recently come out of the water - delicious!

The upstairs restaurant area is perfect for a lazy lunch watching the ferries and other boats coming into port.

This is the first pub I ever visited in Portsmouth. Its right at the front in old portsmouth, it’s a Gales flagship pub and the interior is gorgeous, very traditional.
There are some great real ales on offer. They do fish and chips to take away at certain points within the week, and bar snacks are avaliable downstairs.
Upstairs there is a restaurant with great views of the ships coming into Portsmouth, the food is really good and not badly priced, the fish is excellent!
Good service, everything you would expect from a flagship pub.
