Review of The Tempest Arms from 13 January 2013
Given that we have lived locally for many years and have visited this pub very often and without complaint on any visit it is time I posted a review.

The Tempest Arms pub is set in the wonderful Yorkshire Dales countryside, just out of Skipton and whilst it is just off the main road, so it is easy to find, there is no road noise that disturbs you. The pub has accommodation and is often used for weddings and events.

The pub has an excellent selection of beer and different types of wine all at usual pub prices. There is a restaurant so you can book in advance for a table, which is always a good idea as the pub does get busy. You can also just drop in and take a table in the bar area as the same menu is available there too.

Food prices are very reasonable, main meals range from £8.50 to around £14.00 and the servings are really good portions.  I love the seafood pancake main meal which comes with two pancakes filled with different kinds of seafood in a delicious sauce, served with a good portion of chunky chips and a decent size side salad.  This is one dish you will not need any other courses and it is priced under a tenner!  The food is home made decent better than your usual 'pub grub'.

The staff are very accommodating and the service is great.  The menu is extensive and there is a specials board and seperate 'Hymm sheet' which changes periodically.  The atmosphere is great and they use local produce where possible.  Sunday lunches are highly recommended and serve all day from 12 noon to 7.30pm and we eat here often.

The pub has an outside decking area where food and drink is served and in the summertime it is really lovely to be in this environment.  I have to say that the decking area does overlook the car park but only the narrow area of the car park and beyond the one layer of cars is greenery and it is this that you seem to focus on as opposed to the car park which is likely to be because the decking area is raised from ground level enabling your vision to look into the distance.  From this ourside area, and also inside the pub you can see cows grazing on the edge of the field and it certainly reminds you that you are in the countryside.

There are two car parks which do fill up due to the popularity of the place but there is the ability to park on the side street that runs alongside the pub although it is a narrow road.  I have always been able to park my car in the 15 years that I have been visiting this pub no matter how busy they get.

I would highly recommend the Tempest Arms and give it five stars.  The pub has also recently been in the Good Pub Guide so it gets the 'thumbs up' all round.

Review of The Tempest Arms from 13 June 2011

Perhaps we went on an off night, but we found the welcome a bit unwelcoming, the service distinctly slack (we had to wait nearly an hour for somebody to take our dessert order) and the food downright average. There were seven of us and the table they gave us was awkward and unsociable. It's an attractive place out in the country though, and if you value large portions above sheer quality, you may like it. The food is fairly cheap by today's standards, which goes some way to explain why it's just adequate.

I am so sorry that you did not have an enjoable time at the Tempest and I am sure that you are quite correct in what you say it may have been an ‘OFF’ day. Although I do not agree with the remark made about quality! We use the finest ingredients in all our dishes. I also cannot remember for the life of me any table in my whole career waiting an hour to order desserts! No one would sit and wait that long no one?
Please do try us again i am sure all will be to you satisfaction like that of the many reviews left by guests prior to this one. We look forward to seeing you.

We use the Tempest as one of our favourite venues to run our food safety and HACCP training courses.

The food is fantastic (very large portions so be warned). Bedrooms are also very comfortable and reasonably priced - two execturive suites with hot tubs! Decor is cosy with plenty of modern, colourful touches.

Make sure you book at busy times otherwise you could have a long wait in the bar as it's VERY popular.

This one gets a straight five stars for its great food. The menu is immense and includes at least one of everybodies favourite meal. The setting is gorgeous, set out in the middle of the countryside.

They stock a wide range of locally brewed real ales and have an outside area for those hot summer days.

The menu comes as A3 size to enable them to get all of those lovely meals onto it. The food is really well priced as well considering the big portions that you get served.

Friendly and welcoming a must for anyone in the yorskhire area.

This is a great place for Sunday lunch.
Food is of a high standard and plentiful.
We often meet friends here.
Near Skipton and convenient for the A59
Recently extended to provide more accommodation.
I suggest you always book a table because it is very popular

Wonderful Yorkshire pub with great beers and a very varied menu, with something for everyone. We have been visiting this pub for over 30 years and have seen the landlords come and go. It has still maintained its friendly atmosphere and kept up its high standards (especially its beer). Although last time we went the specials board was not that special which is why I have marked it down one star.
A wonderful place to stay with well appointed bedrooms and a fantastic breakfast experience. lots to do nearby. Decent parking although a little smaller now due to expansion so get there early at the week end!

Visited this place with a group of 10 of us on short notice and there were more than happy to fit us in for a meal. The food was reasonably priced but a bit of a let down, I had heard nothing but rave reviews in the past. The beer is where this place really excels, having a varied selection at good prices.

Review of The Tempest Arms from 27 September 2008

Stayed here this week on the recommendation of a work colleague and wow!!!
It’s in a wonderful spot on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales.
The room was large with two queen sized beds and a sofa and chair, a large flat screen TV and a fire place for the winter nights. Bath Robes and Moulton & Brown toiletries in the bathroom.

The food was excellent (there is a sample menu on the website) and there was a large selection of wines but the best bit was the beers. They had Timothy Taylors Landlord and Best Bitter, Theakstons Best Bitter, Dark Horse Best Bitter, Moorhouses Elslack Ale and Thwaites Wainwright as well as a range of keg beers, lagers and ciders - Heaven!!!
