ditto to someone below, Eike is excellent! Highly recommended, especially if you're a guy. You do need to make an appointment beforehand, though.

Der Haarmacher with its bright, happy orange interior next to the Frankfurter Tor seems to have been around for a while. I have really long hair that had gotten too heavy to twist into a bun, which is the only reasonably bearable way to wear long hair in humid conditions. So, for lack of hairdressers in the middle of the really sparsely populated tropics where I was working, I had to cut my hair myself with surgeon's scissors. The result was...ragged at best. So, once I got back to Friedrichshain, the neighbourhood with the most hairdressers per capita, it seemed a good idea to get it fixed. Mind you, I hadn't been to a hairdresser in about 7 years (a really long time for a girl), so it was preferable that my first haircut in a while would not be so disastrous that it'd turn into my last one for another long while. Most qypers loved this place, so I made an appointment with Carolin.
1. The location
Modern interior, light, open spaces and high ceilings, orange touches. Lots of hairdresser chairs and their hair professionals stock this place.
2. The Staff
The staff manning the desk were welcoming, offering to take my coat and asking if I wanted anything to drink. Carolin, an awesome hairdresser, took time to listen to my deunglish and advise. And then ample time to cut my hair, no rushing here. Checked several times if I was happy with the length etc. Blow dry and styling was pretty good, though it took forever to get my hair dry.
3. The Atmosphere
Welcoming. Professional, and pretty tranquil considering the overall busyness.
4. The Damage
30 euros for the consultation, wash, cut, blow dry and styling. Would have been less if my hair had been less. Boys don't have to dig as deep, 12.50 is all they need to cough up.
5. Useful Tidbits
Check out their website for info and opening times. For those trying to scrimp in these hard times, you can apply to become a model and get your hair cut for free by a trainee under the close supervision of one of the hair masters ;-)
