Thats Who!!!
Exactly what an independent record shop should be. Rather than filling their racks with the mainstream stuff and trying to compete with the Zavvi that’s down the road, Selectadisc is crammed full of unusual music, all intelligently arranged in styles ranging from 60s to reggae to, since it’s Nottingham, bizarre variations on scary hard rock that you’ve never heard of.
As a fan of electronic music I headed upstairs, where they have a fairly small (but perfectly formed) selection of dance music, all categorised well. Alongside a small selection of mainroom house stuff, there’s breaks and beats, electronica, downtempo. All very reasonably priced- and some of it extremely reasonably priced, there’s a chance you’ll come out of there with a bargain, especially if you can be bothered to sift through the 50p rack on the counter which is packed with album & single promos. It’s worth spending the time, for sure.
On top of that there’s a wall full of people advertising for bands/collaborators, a range of T-shirts, vinyl… the classic indie record store.

quite an eyeopener, with all the different types of music, including VYNYL.

Probably one of the best independent record stores left in the country. A music pseud’s paradise, packed as it is with obscure post-rock and dubstep treasures, but there’s also lots of the more well known stuff as well, and it’s all very competitively priced. If you want recommendations, the staff are very good at that; despite their cooler-than-thou demeanours, they’re actually pretty helpful. All this and gig tickets too - quality.

Selectadisc is the main independent record shop left in Nottingham and sells a good selection of CDs, Vinyl and gig tickets. The shop has recently been downsized but this hasn’t affected the range of music available that much. Downstairs is mainly CDs which there is a good selection of, although they can be a little pricey at times. Upstairs is the best part of Selectadisc, it’s the only place in Nottingham that has a good selection of Vinyl with most of the floor dedicated to it. They’ve recently included more second hand stuff which while it isn’t as good as the old second hand shop they used to have, is still nice to see.

Selectadisc has always been one of the best record shops in Nottingham and plays very much to its strengths. The range and variety of stock is excellent and many times more inspirational than that of the major chains. Additionally, prices are usually very reasonable. There is a real sense that the store is run by people who love music and that it doesn’t just exist to make money hand-over-fist. Whatever your favourite genre, chances are that there will be something to interest you here. It’s also the sort of place where you’ll usually come across something that you didn’t even know existed, and as such it is a great place for browsing. Selectadisc loses out (just) to Fopp for me personally, but it’s usually the first place I turn to (apart from the Internet) if I want to find a specific back-catalogue album. Recommended.

This place is great for your urban music, those albums that are from america and are not stocked in your popular music shops. There is a lot of choice and lots of leaflets of local evnts.

With the growing concern about independent retail businesses in today’s current climate, it’s good to see there are those fighting the good fight. Selectadisc may have seen expansion and back again in recent times, but it still remains on of the building blocks of the music scene in Nottingham.
For those with slightly more leftfield taste than Britney Spears etc, anything that you can’t find in HMV, you’ll find here. Be it CD’s, records, DVD’s and magazines, Selectadisc really does cater for everything that the music snob could ever want.
You’ll already know the myth about snooty shop assistants, but on the whole the staff are friendly and helpful enough. If you love music and live in Nottingham, you’ll already know about this place.

Selectadisc is a fantastic shop for those times when you want something different or simply do not wish to wait a few days for an internet delivery to arrive.
The selection is wide, leaving you with a real opportunity to discover some new talents, and the formats offered for sale are varied. It’s not often you get to see vinyl records around any more!
The prices are pretty cheap compared to the much larger music stores and I have found the atmosphere to be much more inviting. I often stop off in here whenever I have a bit of free time in my lunch hour.

Selectadisk is a specalist music shop with all those cd’s youd never be able to find in your local HMV or zavvi. Ive found many rare titles of cd’s which surprisingly are a good price. there are limited editions and it is really easy to find what your looking for. Its abit like fopp but you dont have all of the latest hits. there may be some if your lucky. Overall if your a classic music fan and looking for that old record this is the place.

Selectadisc is one of the best record shops in the area and stocks a wide range of items at low prices in comparison to greedy chains such as HMV.
Go looking for something obscure and you will more than likely find it because they stock bands you would probably never even dream of. I did not expect them to stock noise, but much to my surprise they do and they have lots of obscure bands i have never heard of.
There are two floors, first for cd and advertisements and the second for vinyl. The collections are usually rare yet reasonably priced and i recommend this shop highly!
This can be quite crowded at times because everyone loves the greatness that is selectadisc!

Great atmosphere and service from the knowledgeable staff, this is a 'proper’ record shop that’s been in Nottingham for years, fantastic for browsing and discovering new sounds. Also stocks all local magazines, zines, leaflets, gig listings and various Nottingham counter-culture info.

I went into Selectadisc for the first time a few weeks ago, and… wow. Why I’d never stepped foot in there before that, I will never know. The atmosphere is fantastic, and there’s an entire floor devoted to vinyl! Of course, being a small independent shop, prices are a bit higher than in your high street stores, but you can pick up hard to find items here, and items the high street brands would never stock, and there are some bargains to be found. I managed to pick up a 12” promo single from one of my favourite artists for only £1.99, which guaranteed I left the shop with a smile! Between Selectadisc and Fopp, Nottingham is really well off for record stores at the moment.

After reading somone else’s review on google of Selectadis I decided to do away with all my CD’s and take them there to sell. How embarrassed was I standing there with a big box and they said they didnt buy them. So note they dont buy CD’s. LOL

I must say, selectadisc is one of my favourite places in nottingham! I love it! I always use it to buy my cds, even if it means paying a couple of quid more! It all helps the store, so i am willing! It also sells tickets and vinyl upstairs! It always stocks the littler bands too, and even some nottingham bands.
KEEP IT OPEN!

This is the place for CDs and vinyl. Forget the chains, if you’re looking for a rare piece of vinyl, or an obscure CD, go here. The staff don’t bite, they’re even friendly to old foggies like me, and they’ll tell you what’s playing on the speakers without sneering at you.
So, even if you usually buy online, they have a web site too, pop down and have a browse. Nothing beats flicking through racks of CDs, and the bargain bin is always good for a rummage.
It’s a good place to connect with other musicians too. There’s a notice board full of gigs in the area and ads for singers / drummers etc.
