Organic doesn’t mean quality, especially in Prenzlauer Berg where there’s very little eating culture and “Bio” is more of a marketing logo than anything else. The Bird might not be “bio” but I certainly trust its meat a lot better than any other “Bio” burger places around. As for vegetarian… I’m not sure it’s a wise choice for a vegetarian to go there.

Every time I have been something has been wrong either they forget part of the order most recently the chicken wings, or the burger is cold in the middle, as in just out of the fridge cold and has to be sent back to be heated.
I had a steak on one of my visits and to be honest it was easily the best I've had in Berlin, it was juicy, properly cooked and full of flavour. But the burgers are no longer, if they ever were, the best in Berlin and at the price they charge for a large lump of barely cooked unseasoned ground beef I'm quite surprised they aren't better.
They don't serve the burgers in a normal burger bun but in an English muffin. When a lot of the other burger places in Berlin now serve buns that are equal to a lot of American burger buns, I don't understand why The Bird still insists on serving their burgers on a tiny and flimsy muffin that just isn't suited for the job. This is no longer just after the wall has fallen either buy decent buns or make your own, it's not that difficult.
The staff always seem to be rushed off their feet even when the place isn't that busy but I do wonder if this is down to the fact they spend a lot of time doing shots of jager behind the bar at 7pm! The beer selection isn't too good, the tap beer is Krombacher or Schneider Weisse, they do have a couple of Brooklyn beers in bottles but they are 5.50€ for a 330ml bottle. And then some random imported stuff that isn't too good.
The Bird is good for steaks but going there for a burger is probably a waste of your money when you can make a better burger at home with ground beef from a supermarkt and a shop bought bun even in Berlin nowadays.

It's very expensive for Berlin (twice what you pay elsewhere, even organic burger bars), yet still grotty - kitchen paper towels for serviettes, stinky toilets - and with insanely loud clichéd American music. I won't be going back.
But the fries were tasty (though soft and greasy).

I don't blame them though, I would also think it was pretty stupid to go there as a vegetarian. (I'm stupid, I know)
Every meat-lover loves this place. Period. Beware of the prices though. It's not exactly Berlin-average if you know what I mean. Feels like being in Stockholm.

Great hamburgers and home made fries.Hamburgers are made of good quality meat and they have nice grill flavor. We never go there Friday or Saturday late afternoon as place is usually super crowded. If you dont feel like whole meal,I recommend their home made fries, you get pile of them and they taste delicious!Dog friendly place.

I heard many different opinions about the Bird before my first visit last night.
The atmosphere and menu were folksy and pleasant. The burgers and fries were delicious, maybe not everybody’s favorite, but everything my colleauges and I wanted. Service was kind and “speedy”. Temporary the music in our corner was too loud so that conversations over the table were a little bit stressful.
For 20€ per person we all got burgers, enough pitchers to satisfy our thirst, one share of these damn hot Napalm-Wings and a joyful evening.

The Bird is the Word? I don’t think so.
We had dinner at The Bird last night for my husband’s birthday dinner. We made the reservation two days before, but they could still only squeeze us in at 17:00 and we had to be out of there by 19:00. When we arrived, they sat us at a table barely big enough for 6 people and right by the door. They don’t have a thick drapery at the door to block the chilly February wind so every time the door opened we were blasted with cold air. When we arrived, they were also pumping loud rap and hip hop which quieted down into classic rock at about 18:00. I guess that’s supposed to add to the ‘American charm’ of the place, but I found it kind of annoying and out of place for a restaurant. That would be fine if it was a bar only.
On to the food… 5 people ordered steaks and I ordered a patty melt. The steaks are supposed to come with sauteed spinach, fries, and a salad, but after we placed our orders, the waiter informed us they were out of spinach. This was at 17:30, so clearly before the dinner rush. One of our friends ordered his steak medium rare, and it came out medium. The waiter offered to make another steak, but our friend declined so as to not waste an otherwise fine steak. Everyone else was pleased enough with their steaks, and my patty melt was quite good. I tried a few bites of my husband’s steak, and it was good, but not fantastic.
The service also left something to be desired. One waitress spilled a bit of a drink on a birthday present as she was setting it down and, and one of our waiters forgot to bring mayo for my patty melt.
Overall, the food was fine, but nothing to write home to mom about especially if you’re used to really good steaks and burgers in the U.S. There were a lot of little things with regard to service and ambiance that detracted from the overall enjoyment of the evening. If we go back, we would stick to burgers and probably go on a week night.
