Review of Supercuts from 22 July 2009

I didn’t realize Supercuts existed in the UK, so i was please to find one within striking distance of the office. I usually go to the Rose and Crown in Covent Garden (which is awesome by the way), but i was pressed for time so i popped in here instead. At £11.99 for a chop, this is a definite short back and sides place, so don’t expect anything fancy. My hairdresser was friendly, chatty and then end result was a pretty decent haircut (well, i haven’t had any comments yet).

I’ll go back again if i’m in a rush.

Review of Supercuts from 17 November 2008

I would normally avoid Supercuts like the plague, I confess. I’ve had some appalling haircuts in various Supercuts branches in the past, and one or two where my hair was so unchanged that I think they just waved the scissors in front of it.

But it was a Wednesday afternoon, I’m growing my hair, and I wanted my fringe cut. How hard can that be? I mean, I can do a half decent job with the nail scissors, so a professional should be able to at least equal that.

In a moment of madness, I decided I’d like a trim. There were five members of staff in the salon that day - two unfriendly females, two rather arch blokes that decided I didn’t exist because I was over 35, and a very friendly guy who looks like Billy Idol c.1981, who ended up cutting my hair.

And thank god he did. In times when credit has been less crunched, I’ve been known to pay £80 or so for a haircut, but for my £24, I had a haircut that easily equals some of the more average of those. It sits well, it’s even, the layers actually fall with the wave in my hair, and he’s taken note of my rather odd hairline at the nape (it grows in three distinct directions!). I tipped him six quid, figuring £30 was still a cheap cut.

So I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend him. Not the salon, necessarily, although the other four might be equally or even more competent. But he’ll be the only one friendly enough to acknowledge your existence anyway, so you stand a good chance of a very good cutter!

Review of Supercuts from 2 October 2008

I visited here on a early afternoon midweek earlier this year, & they only had 2 staff members present but thankfully I only had to wait for about 5 mins before I was shown to a seat for the haircut. Prices & styles were discussed upfront & decided upon then it was time to have my hair washed (even though I’d only just washed it that morning - doh!) & I’ve gotta say - normally I hate that part as I find the neck area around the sinks really painful - but this was fine & it was actually pretty relaxing. The male hairdresser was lovely - not chatty at all (which I prefer) and I had every faith that he would do a good job. He took his time - wasn’t rushed at all & I left the salon feeling happy about the whole process - not what always happens after a visit to a hairdresser.
Unfortunately the hair cut turned out to be very blah….I had layers cut in & either he just took the mid (safe) road & it just didn’t suit my hair or he didn’t do a good job technique wise.
It did only cost about £24 so guess it’s a lesson in 'you get what you pay for’. The salon itself was clean looking & large.
