The best book shop , the books are great , the owner Gerry is the best read and company Satsang. Go there and feel the peace and stillness fill your soul.

Review of Reid Of Liverpool from 17 November 2008

Ah, a wonderful treasure trove of used books. It’s hard these days to find a decent used bookstore in Liverpool (Bohn’s was half-decent, but it’s been shut down), but Reid of Liverpool has always been my favourite. It’s a small place, but the owner makes maximum use of the space, with a good selection of books over several categories. Usually quiet, and when I used to go in there, there was always incense burning. Might have changed ownership by now.

Review of Reid Of Liverpool from 3 October 2008

Doth Thou Liketh Books? Verily much so? Than Thou Hast Found A New Church.

Reid of Liverpool is a small little place tucked away behind a bus stop on mount pleasant. And how pleasant it is. Apparently it’s “the only surviving Georgian, purpose built retail premises incorporating living accommodation in Liverpool erected circa 1785” but due to the city council erecting aforementioned yellow bus stop in front of it the looks are somewhat diminished.

A plethora of literary treats and gems can be found here, and somehow they always manage to get a new collection in. I sometimes think this shop is owned by one of the merchants in the Discworld who only stay in a city for a couple of hours … but enough obscure literary references.

In short, if you’re after a pleasant afternoon with the smell of old books then here’s the place to come. Also check out “The Amorous Cat” on Lark Lane.
