Earley Retreat

Just had my worst pub meal ever. Told my wife I fondly remembered excellent lunch time menus here and we decided to have a Sunday lunch. Unfortunately I didn't see the 'Under New Management' sign. My daughters all day breakfast consisted of a couple of burnt hash browns, 4 burnt sausages and a huge mound of beans. We were brusquely informed 'We don't have bacon or eggs today so we gave you extra beans and sausages'. My wives steak pie was inedible crust with a smear of gravy and a single piece of meat about the size of a butter bean. My 'white fish in a crispy batter was something unidentifiable in a floppy casing. The chips that came with both meals were inedible and cold. We made a half assed complaint, more a comment on the steak pie minus the steak, but were just sneered at. I will never enter this place again, and that's a pity because they used to serve great value meals and it was welcoming and warm.

I remember the days when this was full to the rafters of young uns at the weekend before a big night out in town and was a bit of a dive. However these days the pub is much more civilised and does some good cheap food and has a nice interior and friendly staff. Nice little garden area with heaters and children allowed in up to 9pm. A couple of pool tables and a large tv. Good little local
