IT IS CLOSED – My sister-in-law is a Dr Who fanatic went to Cardiff especially to see this exhibition….., She is here on holiday all the way from Adelaide, Australia and her time is precious so she was not impressed! to say the least!!
IT IS CLOSED AS OF 16TH SEPTEMBER 2011 – DON’T GO! YOU’LL BE AS DISAPPOINTED AS MY SISTER-IN-LAW!!!!
Can I give this No stars? It was awful. My 6 and 3 year old were looking forward to this immensely (and it was one of the reasons we had a couple of nights in Cardiff). It was squeezed into the corner of the Red Dragon centre and was a complete rip off. Prices are not as shown on the web - £7.50 for adults. £4 would have been over the odds. It is little more than a stream of costumes and tacky props, with a few sounds and flashing lights. It took us 10 minutes at most to wander around, and thinking we had missed something we did it again - another 8 minutes wasted. The organisers should be ashamed of themselves especially at this cost. We expected, at least, an insight into how it's made with a small cinema showing video / film clips etc. My advice - spend similar amount of money and head off to Cardiff castle - at least you get a sense of history and fresh air - we went bowling afterwards across the corridor - even that was more entertaining that this shambolic excuse of an exhibition.

As a Doctor Who fan, I planned a visit my visit to Cardiff to include a stop at the exhibit. For about £6.50 per adult we found it reasonable value. There are original props and some moving models and it's quite well setup. Perhaps a bit smaller than I would have liked but there has been effort put into making the most of the space. The exhibits themselves are detailed but I would have liked them to be more interactive. Overall - well worth a visit, but make sure there others things on your itinerary as it won't be enough to occupy on it's own.

For all Dr Who fans this exhibition is a must!!Although it is not very big there’s enough to see and children will love it.They have props from various series and a full size moving dalek which is fab.
Admission is a bit expensive but then that happens everywhere these days!!
There is a very good shop which sells everything to do with Dr Who.

I planned a trip to cardiff with my dr who mad daughter. A part of this plan was to visit the Exhibition. I was very disapointed with the size of it considering that most of the filming take’s place in Cardiff. We went round a few times which left me feeling bored. My daughter enjoyed her self though, as she is only 5 she was plenty entertained in here.
I did find it pricey for what was avaible but all in all, informative and well kept.
I found the shop expensive not much for little ones wanting to spend some pocket money.
A good day out though if you vist the other attractions available in the red dragon center.

My partner and I were really looking forward to visiting the Doctor Who exhibition, but left a little disappointed.
The quality of the exhibits was excellent and very informative. It’s just a shame that we were finished in around 20 minutes, I wished that there had been more to see.
Location-wise you couldn’t ask for more. If you or your little ones are Dr Who/Torchwood/Sarah Jane fans you can buy a map of their shooting locations many of which Cardiff Bay is home to.
If visiting other attractions in The Red Dragon Centre or around the bay, then the Doctor Who exhibition would make a great addition.

Me & my husband visited cardiff for our 2nd wedding anniversairy this year. We visited the doctor who exhibition and shop and found it all very interesting, there is a questionnaire to fill out while you go round the exhibition and you get a car sticker if you get all the questions correct. We found this a very enjoyable experience. There was props, costumes and video clips to look at but it was quite small and doesnt take a long time to walk round it all. Very well set out and friendly staff. Reasonably priced.

We enjoyed this but there could have been more of it. It was expensive for a family of 4 and we’d seen it all in 15 mins!
The children were given a quiz sheet to complete whilst we walked around and this was great fun and helped us get more involved with the exhibition.
The shop was pricey too and nothing special.

Quite a small exhibition but enough for me and the children. Went around Cardiff Bay also and then another look to see if we had missed anything. It’s quite frightening to be soooo close to a dalek. Shop quite expensive and doesn’t sell batteries just chuck away cameras which is a shame as my camera batteries ran out. Admission fee was reasonable.

For me, the exhibition was far too small for the entry price. You can take it all in in 5 minutes without rushing. I would like to have seen a walk in tardis, there seems to be a severe lack of interaction with any exhibit. However my 3 year old spent 4 hours in there and loved every minute.
The shop was a little disappointing, stocking nothing that isn’t available in toys r us, and at RRP, no discounts.
If you have a child who is into doctor who, this is great,

A must see exhibition for any die hard fans of the time lord. However, if your a casual fan, I wouldn’t pay the admission fee for what can only be described as a total disappointment. It is one room big, and can be seen in all of 5 minutes. The gift store on the other hand is perfect for people of my geeky-ness. It is full of sci fi merchandise (the majority of which is Doctor Who (naturally)) and it is well priced.

A nice treat for fans of the Doctor Who series however it is really expensive for what it is! Most of the section is dedicated to selling merchandise so don’t have your expectations raised too high!
Due to its location inside Cardiff Bay’s Red Dragon centre it’s good for combining with a bowling/cinema trip.

Located in the red dragon centre down cardiff bay when i first visited (buying time before going to see a film) it was free to go in & have a wander, this must’ve been when it first opened i think, but when going back to the cinema i’ve noticed they have started charging not sure how much as didnt go in again only once for free, When i did go there it was ok a few daleks, dr who models etc but the merchandise my word is expensive considering the prices in local shops etc although i guess its good fun for children & dr who fans.

Thanks to the new series, there’s no longer any shame in admitting that you are a fan of Doctor Who! Great news. So I can admit that I’d already been to Doctor Who exhibitions in Longleat (years ago) and Brighton (the same exhibition of the new series), before this venue opened up in my area.
Those other exhibitions were large, and contained room after room of archive costumes and sets and props, and video clips, from the classic series as well as, in the case of Brighton, the new series. So I was pretty disappointed when I saw the size of the Cardiff exhibition- I’d describe it as one large dark room, you could walk around it in two minutes.
They pack a fair number of things to see in there, but space is definitely limited and it would’ve been nice to see a lot more. Also, all the classic series stuff seems to have pretty much gone- making it a museum of 4 years of TV history instead of 40.
When it first opened it was free to get in, but now they’ve started charging I’d have to suggest it’s not good value for money. If you’ve got kids who love Doctor Who then they’ll have a great time, but it won’t take them long to see the whole thing.
The sci-fi shop is free to go in even if you’re not visiting the museum. It’s at least 90% Doctor Who merchandise (no surprise there), there are some nice items and a lot of novelty TARDIS things (keyrings, USB hubs, etc.) but collectors won’t be impressed. It will also leave you a bit out of pocket.
