The Oxford English Dictionary - God bless its cotton socks - insists that using a 'z' rather than an 's' is historically acceptable and grammatically correct (well most of the time).
Scholars argue, as scholars do,* and even fellow publications of the Oxford University Press disagree vehemently. One entry where the OED does strike me as being woefully lacking is the abbreviation 'USP'. Any sound (or unsound) marketing man will tell you that it stands for 'Unique Selling Proposition'. What makes a product or service a one-off, a must have?
Here, the OED claims that USP = United States Pharmacopeia. Oh yeah? Oh well...
Let's cut to the chase; the Highwayman in Zummerzet, which definitely has a USP. If you prefer a civilised drive to the west on roads such as the A361 (Fosse Way) rather than dicing with death squeezing through the ranks of insane Balkan truck drivers on the M4, then you will pass this establishment near Shepton Mallet.
If it is a Monday, then STOP!!!
The reason is that all other pubs within a radius of at least 15 miles or more seem to close on a Monday. Consequently, I you fancy a pint, a bite or just a P, then here is the P in USP!
Friendly, large, spacious, reasonably-priced, good quality and above all open!
I agree with what reviewer jenjade said. To that, one should add that there is also extensive accommodation if you need it.
A good stop on any day. On a Monday a MUST stop!
(*This a so-called Oxford comma'. Enjoy.)
. The highwayman Inn is located at Canards Grave Shepton Mallet. The pub sells both food and drinks. The pub has parking and a garden area which is equip with a children’s play area. The play area is well maintained and safe for children to play in. The pub is light and bright. The staff are very helpful and friendly. They offer an extensive food menu. The food does take a long time to come but it is hot, fresh and very tasty the prices are also very reasonable. the pub is clean and well maintained. I have eaten in this pub several time and I have always found the food very tasty and good value.
