4 reviews of L Manze- Pie and Mash Shop in English
The best in London, after the sad demise of Cookes' on Kingsland Road.
BettyBoopFan Cooke’s in Kingsland Road? My mum used to buy eels from there, live (well until she bought them of course!). Brings back wonderful memories. Last time I was down home way, it was a Chinese! But also have fonest memories of Kelly’s and Cookes’s in Broadway Market, Kelly’s Bethnal Green Road and Cookes’s Hoxton. Can’t get it where I am now, so I try to make it myself – my licquer is ace!

BettyBoopFan And I enjoyed my pie and mash in Manzes’ Walthamstow! Sorry to say that I tried the pie and mash in Waltham Abbey, but not quite the same. Sorry David Beckham!

NOT TOO BAD, THOUGH NOT IN MY OPINION IN THE SAME LEAGUE AS MANZE'S BERMONDSY, COOKES'S IN BROADWAY MARKET COOKES'S HOXTON ST MARKET. And all pale into incignificants compared to the old cookes's in kingsland high st in dalston, sadly no longer in existance. If i had to pick a current champion , it wiuld be Hoxton St market !!!!!
This is an amazing resturant, the mash is really creamy and the pie are amazing. This is by far the worlds best pie n mash shop! Being its world famous this shop does get very busy! So make sure you leave plenty of time.
This is the world famous Pie’n’mash shop much loved by ex-pat Londoners, (google it, you’ll see) Proper cockney, it’s hardly changed in my lifetime or my mums (she’s 78) Still has the marble and mirrors, but thankfully not the stall outside where a man in a bloody apron butchered live eels!
The pies are delicious, and the mysterious green liquor (to be mixed with vinegar) added to mashed potatoes make a feast fit for a (Pearly) king.
They also sell jellied eels, an acquired taste, and sweet pies and custard, if you need a dessert.
If you crave a bit of Cockney nostalgia, this is the best!
drday At 69 Manzies is one of my very early memories when I used to have just liquor and mash. I recall eating at Manzies before going to the theatre opposite in the afternoons. It used to be my daily eatery when I worked in James Street. My wife and I still visit the Pie'n'mash shop lthough we live in Essex. Mazies is the best of all the Pie'n'mash shops that is why it has survived many of the others including Cookies at Dalston.
