An old-style Viennese café with typical Viennese cuisine and sweet treats. Looks a bit more in need of renovation than some of the other old cafes in town, but a charming, down-to-earth atmosphere - you really feel like you're back in Vienna around the turn of the century when you're enjoying an Einspänner and Apfelstrudel here!

This Cafe can get quite a bad rap but I found it OK ie. Not my favorite choice of hangout – but OK in Viennese coffeehouse terms. I just had a coffee and cake here and both were reasonable. Service was not that friendly but that is not uncommon in Vienna – at all. I did find the atmosphere a bit worn down generally but it was OK and it did not stop throngs of people sitting around for a smoke, drink and schnitzel. Depends on your standards, I guess. You can also sit, drink coffee and read papers for long periods and no-one will hassle you to leave!

Have to disagree with the other reviews on here who dislike.
This is a traditional Viennese cafe, schnitzel is the main dish here and if you don’t like that, yeah, go somewhere else.
Very traditional and great high ceilings and decor. And it’s cheap.
And the coffee is great here.

I completely agree with emmental who rated this previously. Definitely one of the worst restaurants in the area. Warning-- the waiter will bring you Bretzel and Butterkipferl (pretzels and bread roles). And if you even take a little bite, he will charge you for it, even though you never ordered them -- 4 Euro down the drain!
Avoid, avoid, avoid at all costs.

Bears28, 21 March 2011:Exactly. So why do they keep doing this? Frankly, the old culture of this "ask and then you can take" sucks. These grumpy waiters should get off their high horse and get with the times. I am confident that if they started being nice, they would earn better tips and get better reviews, which all equates to better business.

Quite possibly the worst meal I ever had was here. There’s not much choice of where to get food near the station, but avoid this place.
I might as well have gone to KFC for marginally better food at a better price.
