Situated on the A330 plumb spang opposite http://www.qype.co.uk/place/471252-Belgian-Arms-Maidenhead (which is renowned for its lovely beer, beautiful view but stingy sandwiches), The George is a gastropub boasting a pleasing "local" atmosphere at one end, a decent pint

and more than enough tables at the other. We cruised in at lunchtime during the week. This is when your average pub can indeed be empty – which suggests that you pass on the food and wander off elsewhere – but that was most certainly not the case here.
An interesting menu offered such dishes as gilthead bream: the sort of dish that you only encounter at the better end of the gastropub field.
The wines also include some amusing varieties, the like of which are also not everyday tipples.

Service is very friendly and fast and a pleasant outside garden

provides a pleasant alternative at the right time of the year. It is immediately outside the restaurant but also stretches round onto the green and behind the pub.
A light lunch was cost-effective, well cooked and certainly did not leave us starving.
I believe that this is the place to go in Holyport.

It looks lovely both inside and out! Cosy and warm in the winter and fresh and inviting in the summer!
Cheers Bex,
Time you came down for a pubcrawl!
Chris ;-)
Hahah! Indeed! I’m actually thinking that this would make a good stay-cation…pub crawl of the UK!
