On my way to the White Cube gallery I spotted this cafe and decided it would make a good location for a post-art snack.
There's something very cosy and comforting about 124, provided the pointers to traditional seaside resort cafes are ironic: those clumsy dark brown chairs, burgundy read napkins, plastic menus ...
On closer inspection the owners haven't quite finished building the place; there's more to 124 than the cafe that first meets the eye, with the place opening up into a big area in the back.  The toilets were just about operational, but the seats still gaffer taped down, floors made of plywood and bare plasterboards on the walls. 
... hmmm, at least this is a reasonable explanation for the dusty cups - I didn't even notice at first, but glad I didn't order any of the pastries on display.  Enjoyed a cheesy courgette & mushroom sandwich with my coffee instead.
When trying to find out a bit more about the place, it transpired that this is run by the people behind The Leather Exchange around the corner.  And the cafe will soon be a full-blown restaurant - let's hope they will be able to build on the charme that originally drew me in.
