Agree with all the above - the afternoon tea is a really nice treat, my daughter has often bought me vouchers as a gift for mothers day etc. we really enjoy going.

Yorkshire Fat Rascal and Bettys Tea Room blend Tea a very nice sojourn from being dragged around the shops. But Mr Manager - While enjoyable do watch your prices, times are tough and some cannot afford treats like this on a daily basis
This was the second Bettys Cafe we had visited in consecutive days. It is just on the outskirts of Ilkley town centre and the cafe opens into a small shop area selling tempting cakes and pastries, exotic teas, as well as confectionery that would make ideal gifts. Again we had to queue to get a table, the comfy chairs and opulent surroundings certainly help though. The cafe itself has a magnificent vista, that lets light flood in, even on the darkest of autumnal days. Each table feels like it has its own individual character and the waiting staff are extraordinarily polite and friendly, making your lunch feel like a special occasion. However, the food is pleasant but nothing special, as are the coffees. A great experience, but the price is almost prohibitive for regular visits.

Expensive, terrible service (slower than you can imagine and have never got my order right!) and food is not that special. The Disneyland of local eateries.

I love Betty's too, but why do they appear in the results when I Google my website address?

Betty’s is well renowned café started by a Swiss choclatier with branches in York, Leeds and Harrogate. It is situated nestling in the picturesque surroundings of the Dales Way spa town of Ilkley. The moors sweeping down and almost ushering you through the doors of Betty’s tea rooms. All at once you are transported into the bygone time of the Victorian era. Waitresses sweep pass in period clothing offering you such delights as mocha coffee and delicious scones, tea breads and fancy cakes. Although Betty’s tearooms is rather pricey this is justified by the sheer attention to detail in both décor and food alike. The staff are highly efficient and incredibly friendly. Well worth a visit.

I have been visiting this Bettys for many many years and still remember when they used to do a little packed lunch in a cardboard cake box!
A marvelous shop frontage which I am pleased to see has been kept original and true to its roots, which always has wonderful displays in it.
Available at the front are the usual cakes and fancies, a vast array of different breads and Coffee, Tea and fancy goods for presents.
The cafe at the back is large and you usually have to queue, yet they still succeed in delivering high quality food very quickly. Although there is a full length bank of windows I have always found this restaurant a little dark and gloomy. I much prefer Harrogate, but still buy from the shop those little treats when we can afford them!

I really like the fact that the Bettys’ cafes exist and have retained their traditional tea room charm. I have reviewed Betty’s in Harrogate also. However, the one in Betty’s is my least favourite. It somehow feels less 'cosy’ to me than the others and a little more clinical.
It’s not something I can put my finger on and is just my opinion, but I prefer Harrogate and York to this one. Still worth a visit though, as Betty’s is a Yorkshire Institution.

Let’s face it, Betty’s is not your average cafe. If you want a bit of class, well prepared food using high quality ingredients, served by staff in old fashioned black uniform with white aprons, this is the place to go. It’s elegant and stylish. Prepare to queue at times for a table. With all this, you expect to pay that little bit extra. Cheap it is not, but it has a great atmosphere where ladies definately do lunch !! The tea rooms at Harrogate Town Centre, York and Harlow Carr RHS Garden in Harrogate all provide the same level of food and service. Great take out bakery selling scrummy food and high quality ground coffee and loose tea.

daisymaybuckley, 24 May 2011:
Betty’s cafe is a fab little cafe located in the centre of Ilkley. It is a very traditional classic cafe, which has been around for years. It is famous for its bakery and cakes! There is a little bakery shop at the front, then a lovely cafe at the back. A bit pricey, but definately worth a trip.
