When is a greasy spoon not a greasy spoon?
When it's not greasy.
Don't worry, that wasn't a joke. It's a comment on the greasy-ness of Andrews. For a place that serves greasy-spoon staples there is a surprising lasck of grease. No bad thing - it's often the artery clogging element to the food in these kinds of places that makes me avoid them. Thankfully Andrews seems to be able to cook a damn fine English breakfast without it being drowned in a pool of cholesterol.
There is plenty of choice on offer - jacket potatoes, omelets, burgers etc - all available for less than you would expect (Grays Inn Road is plagued by places selling £5 plus sandwiches - a hot meal for less is amazing!) and served hot and fast. Last time I went in I had a side of chips - chips that were on a par with classy upscale restaurants.
It's always busy here - a sign of its quality - so you may end up sharing a table with someone - but thats part of its charm. It's an old school establisment and doesn't try to be anything else.

This is perfect for what it is.
It's a classic caff, with a lovely traditional interior. The food is hearty, tasty and very reasonably priced. The staff are lovely. I love Andrew's and hope it never changes or, even worse, closes.

Andrews oozes with the old school charm. This Gray’s Inn caff is big but cozy, popular with the cabbies and the perfect setting for a proper fry-up. It’s a people watching sort of spot. But be careful not to make eye contact; last time I was there I got the sense that sort of forwardness could cost someone a toof! The walls with the likes of flamenco dancer paintings are worth a look too. But it’s not just the visual. The clink and clank of folks stirring cups of tea is lovely and meditative. And when the place is busy, it rumbles with a chorus of gravelled voices. Honestly, like so many of these caffs, the food is hardly of the “to die for” variety” but the atmosphere cannot be beat.

Wow! I can’t believe I’m the first to review this restaurant, ever since I had been working in charancy lane/Holborn. I have become spoilt for choice with cafes/restaurants.
This is one of my fave cafes, very friendly staff with plenty of food to choose from. Serving all day breakfast, burgers, jacket potatoes and homemade food.
I just love the homemade food especially the lovely roasts. The lamb is so tender and the roast potatoes are cooked perfect. You can have a lovely cooked meal for under a fiver!
I also love the sandwiches with fresh crusty bread, and i spoil myself with apple pie at times which cost only £1.60
I highly recommend this place, it is always packed.
