Blacksmiths Table Restaurant

Very disappointed with this restaurant. It was cold and devoid of customers - we were the only table in. The heater was Calor gas - not what you want to smell when dining! I ordered Moroccan lamb. I expected something authentic but instead got warmed up sliced lamb lying on a bed of moroccan style casserole. I expected lamb that had been marinated in the spices and cooked in a traditional manner. The plus side was that the house wine was Wolfblass Shiraz and was very reasonably priced. The waitress was also very pleasant and professional.

This restaurant is stuck in an 70s/80s time warp. Attempts to update eg offering unusual meats eg crocodile etc only adds to the perception that food comes from the freezer. In this price bracket, what people want is freshly cooked, locally sourced produce, cooked to perfection and served in a comfortable atmosphere - a long way from what I experienced.

We had Sunday lunch here after it was recommended to us by the guide at a local National Trust property. I'm glad she did as lunch was fabulous - the wild boar was sensational and we enjoyed the whole experience. We actually arrived after service was finshed, but the owner kept the place open a bit longer just so we could eat - a really nice guy with excellent and courteous staff assisting him. Now we know about this place we shall definitely be back to try the a la carte menu.

I ate here recently, and I dont know what the guy above is talking about, the food was great, staff friendly and cheerful, and a really good wine list.
Well worth trying, I will be going back again soon, you pay for quality, remember if you pay peanuts, you get monkeys.

this has to be the best restaurant in tyne and wear the venision was cooked to the way i asked , the vegetables were crisp and i also asked if i could have butter on them, fresh veg and butter iam getting hungry as i write this.
wine list big selection but i had the house wine, staff new what they were talking about manager funny man i will be going back soon

From clearly microwaved meals, to overcooked vegetables, overly priced and pretentious is the only way to describe this restaurant. the staff are the only good thing about this establishment, however, the management left a lot to be desired of!
