Leipzig Hauptbahnhof

Finally, a shop other than McDonalds is now offering free WiFi in the main train station of Leipzig. Does it surprise you that it is Starbucks? They took over a portion of the location vacated by the closure of Mango. Now, the location is very impressive and highly odd at the same time. The other portion of the former Mango store is set up (at the current time) for a Christmas trinket shop. It makes me wonder how permanent this Starbucks location will be, but it could easily set itself up to provide a hassle-free waiting area that the Leipzig train station so badly needs. The shops in the main train station are a life saver for anyone not accustom to the shop hours in Germany, since these shops are open on the many national and federal state holidays.

IT S LIKE A SHOPPING CENTER! There s tons of shops and a good variety of foods to take On the train.

Leipzig Mainstation has an impressive architecture and is associated with a large shoping area. It is located centrally and you can walk downtown for sightseeing.

One of the best train stations I've been to. The only others that are on par with Leipzig are Berlin & Bern, CH. Like Bern, you pay 1 or 2 Euros for the toilets but it is the best public toilet experience you will ever have!

The station is big and beautiful, you can get almost anything you could possibly need (clothes, prepared food, groceries, etc.) and you can get anywhere you need to go from here! What more could you ask for?? Luggage lockers? got them! Nail salon? Got that too! Gelato? Most definitely. Big, bright, sun-shining windows? All over the place!

We took the ICE from Berlin to Leipzig. Then transferred to a Bus from Leipzig to Colditz to see the castle that was used as a POW camp for escape artists during the war. Anyway, like all public transportation in Germany it was easy and completely straightforward.

On the way back, we had over an hour in the train station. Could have spent 6 hours in that station!

I lived for four months in Leipzig and the Hauptbahnhof is the most amazing thing there.

It used to be the biggest train station in Germany, but somehow Berlin built a bigger one.

On a rainy day, it would be very smart to spend the day or afternoon there. You wont get bored.
A lot of restaurants, ice cream shops, coffee shops, stores etc ...

This train station is so nice! Go upstairs into one of the businesses, like Mango or whatever, and look at the huge windows and the beautiful renovated ceilings. They have an entire shopping mall with all kinds of eateries and stores in the building. You will have to pay 1 Euro for the restrooms, but at least they are clean. They have locks for your backpack and all things you do not need while venturing through town. I tried to get some info about train connections, but I had to draw a number and wait in line. I decided to use one of these machines to look up the schedule and it was definitely faster than waiting - it even prints it out for you.
