Review of What Stores from 30 November 2011

Lots of cheap stuff and some decent quality tools among the rubbish tools.
You’ll find something for everyone, many trade firms use the shop for tools, materials etc. The household section is amazing, all kinds of kitchen stuff, bathroom equipment & fittings, I could go on for ever.
If you must talk to a member of staff, try one of the East Europeans or Asians, they are much more knowledgeable about the stock and are much more polite than the British staff who work there!!!

Review of What Stores from 15 August 2011

i have always found the store to be fantastic value. whenever i have needed help the staff have always been very pleasant to me. we have bought quite a few bulky items and the security guards have helped me getting them into the car. have recommended the shop to several friends, who have been very impressed with the value. the christmas stocking fillers for my dauhters have saved me a fortune, the arts and crafts section has so much to offer, my kids spend hours making things that i have been able to pick up from there at a quarter of the price of hobby craft. will continue to search for bargains from this store as my whole family thing it is awesome x

Review of What Stores from 12 August 2011

absolute crap to be honest, very rude staff (who take it upon themself to shout at parents and children!!!) and after spending over £700 on 2 settees which proceeded to fall apart after just weeks customer services have been no help in resolving the matter and am still fighting for something to be done 12 months later….. will never shop there again, it just a dirty filthy dusty warehouse full of junk…

Review of What Stores from 8 June 2011

I have to be honest and say that I really like the store, floor staff are very helpful but security staff need a personality transplant as they are rude and unfriendly. I am disabled and was being picked up outside the shop with the goods I had bought from the store. I was struggling to get through the doors and the security guy with a bobble hat stood there watching, a fellow customer put down his bags to help me. I felt that it was bad manners and could not believe he was more interested in smoking his cigarette rather than help a struggling customer.

Review of What Stores from 14 February 2011

As everyone said above the store/shop is great you can find anything you need and usually never costs more than £1! on the negative side, i have to say that whilst shopping ther one saturday late afternoon, and not realising the time, i was confronted by the store 'security' (a bloke in jeans, bomber jacket and bobble hat) who shouted at me from about 20 yards 'Oi! the store is closing, they re shutting the tills!' when i answered, 'was there an anouncement?' he shouted 'im telling you now!' quite peeved i mentioned this to the woman on the till, and said i thought the man had a bad attitute, only to be confronted by him again at the till arguing the toss wth me!.. this i thought was very bad customer service practice! whilst the stuff there is very cheap and it can sometimes attract ( and i mean no disrespect to anyone, as i shop there my self) a lower class of customer, we are not all lke that , some of us just like a bargain! i think they need togive some of there staff some lessons in manners!

parcel The fact is, from the time you enter the store they see u as a potential trouble maker, its a private premises, open to the public, run as a shop, you have no rights, and if they want to abuse you by shouting, they have that rite.

I am not saying I agree with their attitude or behaviour, but thats the chance you take when u enter there.

Buyer beware!

Review of What Stores from 31 May 2009

I really like the “What?” shop, and have done since it was a much smaller store in the city centre (before it got knocked down to start building the St Davids development). It takes the idea of the pound-stretching discount store to the extreme.

It’s primarily a hardware shop, selling everything from sledgehammers to garden tables, but on every aisle there’s something different, and sometimes the name “What?” seems to refer to “What the …. is that?!”. Extremely large poster prints of Joe Calzaghe, anyone? Plastic tubs full of sweets with labels you can’t read? Revolving hatstands? Massive packs of poor-quality biscuits for a pound? Reduced-price J2O fruit juice? It’s all there.

There are some definite bargains to be had, just as long as you take a good look at what you’re buying. Some of the stuff there is very decent, but some of it is very poor quality and won’t last you very long. But as long as you stick to the stuff you can’t really go wrong with, it’s definitely worth a visit. It’s quite funny.

Review of What Stores from 26 January 2009

Not everything you buy is of great quality from Whats. I must admit there are good offers.
I bought a few things in the past which I was not satisfied with, but because the price was not much I didn’t bother doing anything about it.
This time I bought a bed from Whats and sold mine on the same day (Saturday), when I opened the packaging the wood was wet as if it was left outside and the rain caught it, it was also very dumped and had a very horrible smell. We had to sleep on the mattress until today (Monday), i’m taking the bed back to them and see what they will do for me.

Review of What Stores from 19 January 2009

What Store is located on Newport Road in Cardiff and offers household items, car products, furniture, cleaning products and seasonal times at extremely low prices, also offering many items for £1. The best section is the craft aisle that is three aisle long and has everything for either £1 or 2 for £1 which is fantastic value, offering items for your scrap booking and card making. The staff are friendly but the only downside is that it is a complete shambles of a shop and there is mess everywhere and you have to rummage through everything so it takes a while to look through everything. A typical cheap discount store.

Review of What Stores from 18 November 2008

The huge blue signs outside What declare 'What everything?’ 'What prices?’. 'What discount!’ and you will find yourself saying pretty much the same thing as you walk round the store. They literally sell everything from furniture - beds, sofas, chairs, dining furniture and rugs to bedding, food, diy tools, car accessories, christmas lights, toys, clothing and household equipment - kitchenware, bins, mops, storage boxes.. I could go on!

My favourite section has to be the huge craft selection they stock. You can get all sizes and types of cards, stick on bits and bobs, ribbons, glue, paint and art gear. It’s fantastically cheap with most items either 80p or £1.

The household section is also great, I’ve picked up a really nice sieve for a couple of pound and in the food/cleaning product area they often have great bargains. My tip is to look out for the branded products they sell - Dove bath stuff being one of the good finds. Turnover of items in this area is quite high and stock seems to vary week to week so you can get some great things - cheap Cif and Dettox cleaning products etc.

This is definitely a no-frills store but the staff are friendly and if you are a bargain hunter grab a basket on the way in - you’re going to need it!
