The staff were very pleasant and helpful. One of them (I don't know his name) was a bit of a local historian and he told us about the history of the building and showed me some of the old pictures on the wall.
It was named after the famous Carron Ironworks here, established in 1759, which became Scotland's largest industrial complex and dominated the area for 200 years.
Perhaps a little dark inside or maybe it just seemed that way because we called in for a meal on a bright sunny day. Despite the history and pictures I felt this pub lacked some of the character and more attractive surroundings of some of the others we've come to know.

great range of beer and reasonable though not exciting grub unfortunately suffers from the usual wetherspoon prob of the usual crowd of boderline alkyies

Ok for a few cheap beers to start the night but with cheap booze come cheap drinkers who dont care about service, atmosphere or quality of experience. doesnt do it for me but who am I to judge? as thousands of people go to wetherspoons as they are all the same.

This pub like many Wetherspoons is huge, its cheap and not my cup o tea but others obviously like it.
Its the noise factor that keeps me away most though as its aircraft hanger size echos the drunken revellers voices, oh yes and I forgot the food, not such a speedy service and the food is pretty bland and the quality of the meat is less than desirable but if you dont care about that then again…its cheap!

this is a great bar to go to start off a boozy night, or if you are heading to a night club later. the cheap drinks will definitely get you in the mood for a night out. i would not spend the whole night in here though as they don’t have any music, you will eventually have to fight your way through to the bar, and the toilets are up a set of stairs (not so easy to once you’re slightly tipsy and wearing heels). it is just around the corner from city nightclub and storm nightclub (if you could call it that). as usual with all wetherspoons the do some nice cheap meals but only upto a certain time, i’ve only ever had a meal around 5pm. they also do some special offers on the meals like 2 for 1 and such likes.

I quite often go here for a quick lunch with a friend or family lunch/dinner at the weekend. There’s always offers on & the food is really cheap. Service can be slightly slow at times but it tastes fab once it arrives and there is a fairly good choice (burgers, currys, roast dinners, bangers & mash etc)
The toilets are upstairs which is a bit of a trek, there is one disabled toilet downstairs with a baby changing unit but it is locked & staff always seem to take ages to find the key!
It gets really busy & loud in here at the weekend evenings, it’s ok as a place to meet up with friends but you probably wouldn’t want to stay there all night.
The place is clean & the tables are spaced out nicely but it could do with a bit more light.

this pub is situated in the town centre. it is cheap and cheerful, it is a good place to start off for the night, but its not the kind of place you could spend the whole night, it gets very overcrowded at the weekend. they dont have any music playing, all they have is a big tv with no sound, usually on a sports channel. they have nice food, at very reasonable prices. they do big pitchers of cocktails at a decent price, it’s a good place to go for a group of girls having a catchup over a meal and a few drinks.

cheap and cheerful! good drinks and food! good location for city nightclub and other pubs close by! not much atmosphere for a night out but good to go for a few!
