Moin Moin ,

I don't think a sober person ever set foot in this place. still fun to sing in front of strangers though at the end of a night.
This place is a lot of fun. Absolutely jampacked at the weekends, I've never sung here but always handed in a few (still gutted I didn't get to hear Andrew Hunter singing Luther Vandross - if I'd been the MC he would have shot to the top of the list) and waited hooours so don't get your hopes up. Mine were definitely not up, and I was more than happy to be an audience member. Good mix of classic songs, modern stuff, weird German stuff and also the essential mix of good, bad and ugly.
I knew this place was amazing when I first came here and witnessed a version of Stevie Wonder - Superstition that I STILL claim is better than the original.
Somewhere between “Roxanne”, my foot being stepped on, the wet toilet seat and trying to decide if the women behind the bar, in fact, doubled as under cover prostitute… I realized this is the equivalent to Fear and Loathing all wrapped up into an Oasis…that doesn’t carry water or food.
I could see how after my jaunt here, I awoke the next day with this dirty feeling of guilt and two showers later it still didn’t feel quite normalized. But oh, it was a good, good dirty.
This place is a mecca of debauchery and bad decisions, highly recommend it for any visit to the Reeperbahn.
The mark of a really quality night out in St. Pauli would probably be either finishing, or starting, or stopping at Thai Oase. A frightening mix of wildy varying tracks and talent, I’ve seen particularly memorable renditions of “Don’t let the sun go down on me” and EMF’s “Unbelievable” take the crowd by storm. Get there early, and more importantly, write your songs down early, otherwise you’ll be waiting forever! Classic.
I must have walked past Thai Oase literally a hundred times before finally deciding to go in… and it’s great! The selection of songs isn’t very comprehensive, but what there is is packed with cheese, which of course is perfect for Karaoke :)
I like that they sell Singha beer, it really helps with the singing…
One of the finest Karaoke bars on the kiez (reeperbahn). It is located on the partiest street of them all the Grosse Freiheit! To be more specific it is located exactly at the end of the street. It is always packed with people regardless of the weekday, naturally on the weekend and on friday it is almost impossible to get in. It is quite big honestly especially when they open up the back side and it has 2 screens for you to follow the songs. There is an improvised scene next to the guy that plays the songs. Prepare for a long waiting time if you go there a bit later. One thing to pay attention is the windows behind the “DJ” there they list which songs are forbidden on that evening, thus take a look before you order. It is very very funny especially if you are a karaoke lover.
cheers
