One of my preferred markets in London. Brixton market offers great afro-caribbean food, crafts, art etc.

I also love going there for lunch where you can get great cuban, nigerian, mexican or carribean food. People are lovely and down to earth… Far from Borough market’s hype… and that’s for the best!

Brixton market just seems to get better and better. Alongside all the long standing stalls sellign massive varieties of fruit and veg, fish, clothes and (let’s face it) quite a bit of tat, you’ll also find some real gems hidden away in the labyrinthian.

Fanco Manca pizza is worth he bus fare alone - it’s definitely the best pizza in london if not the country, Rosie’s Deli is the perfect place for a cup of tea and a slice of cake (check out here recipe book that just came out), and the Wild Capepr deli is great for breads, olives and all those types of irresitable snacks. Go for an afternoon and explore for a few hours.

This is my business

Brixton is famous for its outdoor and indoor markets. Their location right next to the Brixton Tube and on many major bus routes, makes getting there easy.

Pope’s Road and Brixton Station Road are the other two street market areas. The unparalleled range of goods available reflects the diversity of those that live and work in Brixton. Many shoppers are attracted to the markets knowing that they will be able to find specialist food and other items that are difficult to source elsewhere. The outdoor market is open Monday to Saturday, with a half day on Wednesday.

Brixton Market is home to one of Europe’s biggest collections of Afro-Caribbean foods and produce, serving up West Indian specialties such as breadfruit, plantain, flying fish and fresh meats. There are also the usual stalls you would expect to find in any London market selling clothing, music, make up, flowers and the like.

I am lucky enough to live only a few minutes walk from Brixton Market. There is nothing I like more than strolling through the indoor and outdoor market lanes on a Saturday afternoon. The cultural mix of people and foods is incredible and will have your senses running wild. I always come home with a bag full of culinary delights that usually includes Plantain, which I love to fry and serve with sweet chilli dip, Scotch Bonnet chillis, Flat Breads and of course Ginger Beer. The whole atmosphere of the market on a Saturday afternoon is like a carnival with tunes to boot. Long may the market and its sellers offer us such fantastic produce and such reasonable prices. Whenever I have visitors I always take them to the market to get the best Brixton experience. I love it!

This market epitomises Brixton. Every kind of culture, race and religion mixing, working and shopping together. Yes it can be dirty and intimidating at times but it really is worth the exploration. A great place to pick up very cheap meat too!! I got 4kg of chicken breast/leg potions for £5.99!! Bargain central!

There’s something really awesome about Brixton market which other London markets don’t have. There’s a vibe and a pulse, and a definite feeling as if you’ve left England. It’s loud and smelly and busy and buzzing - like many a market should be. You can get great deals on fruit and veg (a bowl of avocadoes for £1) and even find a top notch place for lunch tucked in the many nook and crannies. I didn’t spend half as much time there as I would have liked as my friends weren’t as excited about the place but generally if you’re into markets you should definitely check this one out. Now if only they did deliveries so I could get all my fruit and veg from there without having to trek down from North London…

Oh yes! I’m on holiday every time I come. If you read these reviews and fancy coming, make sure that you take in the entire market…inside and out. There are two indoor sections to it, all with sections worthy of exploring. you can buy everything Carribean, fish, eat wonderful cuban food, drink fresh coconut milk, there are delicatessens in the European sense, wig-stalls, African stalls, Indian stalls, places to get Latin music from…and cheap veg! It’s like going on holiday.

Took my first trip to Brixton market last weekend and it took everything in my being not to go overboard and buy everything I’ve been craving for months! It’s all fine and well to buy some jerk seasoning and what have you at Tesco… but finding the yams, ripe plantain, green banana, and everything else you can possibly want to cook up come Sunday is another story. I was pretty much on cloud 9 for hours after I arrived at the market, stopping at every stall, going into every store in the area, buying a little something here, and a little more there until I was quite stocked up on all the provisions I’d need to make a proper Sunday dinner. Brixton market was well worth the trip and I’m SO going back whenever I get that nostalgic feeling.

Brixton market is located next to Brixton tube station. It's a very colourful and animated place. The outdoor stalls sell mainly exotic and other common fruits and vegs. You can also find all kind of household items for £1. I like this market for its exotism and lively atmosphere. It's simply brilliant!

Brixton market is just awesome. A great way to spend a few hours on a lazy Saturday, just wandering around and looking at all the weird and wonderful stuff on offer. And everything is dirt cheap (damn it, I really need to get organised and buy my fruit and veg here and not in Tesco!). Not sure I'd have the meat, but everything else looks great. You can get anything from plain haddock to tuna to flying fish in the various fish markets, and of course the fruit and vegetable selection is just fantastic. There’s also loads of little shops where you can get everything you need in terms of spices and other exotic goods. I'm bringing my suitcase with wheels next time.

Brixton Market is a revelation, a fantastic place to go for a stroll and pick out a bargain or two. Hundreds of stalls, selling all sorts, from clothes and shoes at knockdown prices, budget cleaning products, arts and crafts, carpets, flowers, the lot. The best part of it for me is the food stalls. I haven't had the guts to opt for some of the more extreme cuisine, such as the saltfish, but the vegetable shops of which there are many, keep our house stocked with cheap vegetables, masses of peppers or aubergines or whatever for a pound. Never will I buy veg from sainsburys again.

More than 300 stalls, Europe's biggest Caribbean market, flying fisch, breadfruit, saltfish, mango chutney, crab bag, roti, callaloo..... and so on and so forth, crafts, cloths, arts, flowers, you'll find everything under the sun that is woth selling and buying and fits on a table, exciting, big, colourful, absolutely brilliant. Opening hours: It's almost always open, depending on the weather. Just come.
