11 reviews of Hasenschaukel in English
This place is awesome, one of the cosiest bars in Hamburg. Came here for the first time during the Reeperbahn Festival and really regretting I didn’t discover it earlier.
Hasenschaukel was created by Anja Büchel (aka Lupouou) with Tan Le Racoon in 2004, located right by the harbor and Reeperbahn in St. Pauli, Hamburg. Due to its interior of art nouveau meets Burton or Ryden in Mr. Hooper's store (of Sesame Street), and also its choice of music to be played there, the bar is a favorite hangout for locals, freaks, geeks and visitors alike. Selected live acts and the DJ policy keep a real independent spirit. The drinks are good, the staff is friendly, the Hasenschaukel is a home for the likeminded or the nosey.
We also take requests for party buffets and band catering for clubs in the area.
Bar:
Our range of drinks include all your fave bar items, with our special shots like Black One, Hierbas, Mexican, and longdrink specials as Jetboy Rocket Fuel, Malibu-Maracuja, Cuba Libre, Gin Tonic and so on. Our beers include St.Pauli's Astra, well known Becks and Jever, and our house special, Störtebeker, the beer of the righteous (it actually says on the label).
Venue:
We are proud to be host great artists away from the mainstream, who display the beauty of songwriting at its core - the song. Most of these people are dead serious about their independence of marketing tools; then again, no major would touch them anyhow, as we all know great music is unknown to most A&R, and also to the broader audience in times of ringtones and casting shows.
Bringing mainly acoustic shows, the Hasenschaukel creates an intimate setting for an audience to listen. Some of the artists that previously performed include The Strugglers, Gisbert zu Knyphausen, My Brightest Diamond, Peter & the Wolf, Frehn Hawel of Tigerbeat, Ari Up of The Slits, Tricks, Rivulets, Kim Munk of The Broken Beats, Mike Noga of The Drones, Björn Kleinhenz, Cedarwell, Sad Moon, The WoWz, Phoebe Kreutz, Creaky Boards, Ching Chong Song, Dufus, Cheese On Bread, June Madrona, La Grande Illusion, Say, Toby Goodshank von The Moldy Peaches, Honeyheads, Willard Grant Conspiracy, Kid Dakota, Kelley Stoltz, The Wind Whistles and many, many more.
Forthcoming shows please see the calendar.
News is: we DO have a smoker's room, yes indeed. We sacrificed our golden backroom for all your (legal) smoking pleasures. There you go! The air in the backroom is good, we even added some music to the room to make it even more cosy, and the air in the front room (that's where you can have diner and eat and drink and dance) is even way better now. Aren't we tolerant to all your needs? Hehe.

Great!
A magical place to spend an evening. Customer service is excellent, always a decent crowd and atmosphere. A wonderful live music venue. My favourite place, without a doubt, in Hamburg.
Love this bar!
Why don't I live nearby to make it my local bar?? Would be great!
Acoustic for music events is great, fantastic feeling being so close to performers.
Love decor, doll lampshades is a brilliant idea. Well done!
I love this place, madly placed between the beer drinking irish taverns of Hans Alberts platz and the old Eck-kniepes along the back roads, it seemingly and bizarely fits in. Its a refreshing small breath of fresh air, to an otherwise wholly british stag night feeling area. The quirkiness of the bar adds to its freshness and the fact that it has some weirdly good live music adds much to its charm. The lamshades scare the hell out of me, the decor is living room granduer and the toilets are terrible.
a great experience and well wortt a look if its not too overcrowded.
Bizarre little place. Came here early on a Sat. night on a whim and had to literally push my way through the door. After about an hour's concert (none of which I could actually see, being 1m60, the place was packed and there were no proper seating arrangements), we hung out for another hour drinking beers and listening to indie electro.
I don't really want to knock the rating down because of how comfortable this place was to see a concert since my friends told it wasn't normally "as bad", but sorry - this really was a non-experience for me. I'll change my review if/when I go back and enjoy myself a bit more.
Also, what's with the Freddy Kruger-esque doll lampshades? Almost made me cry.
Liron They look like they're straight out of an 80s horror movie. I was waiting for Chucky to burst through the door.

Just went to this bar last night to watch Oldseed play, and fell in love. It's a cozy little bar, and it's right around the corner from where I'm staying.
Really chill and good crowd.
What an awesome bar. Everytime I’ve been in here, and they’ve had live music on, its been great.
Really friendly staff, the infamous pirate beer, and nice decoration. I was initially freaked out by the doll lampshades, but now they add to the eccentricity of the place.
Went there last night and saw another great live music session. The owner is well in with the music scene and so there will always be the best of music here.
One of the greatest bar in Hamburg.
I really like this place. A lot of live music.
Perfect to have a beer
Here’s to the pirate beer!
Someone told me that we could order “pirate beer” which obviously sounds like a great idea. It was pretty nice, but I can’t vouch for its piratey-ness other than “i think it might have had a ship on the bottle”
Yes, we got very drunk.
The place itself seemed pretty cool.
There’s not many bars I know of where you can buy a tub of Ben & Jerrys.
Really really really nice venue just off the Reeperbahn. It’s the most quirky place you could imagine, straight out of alice in wonderland - from the decor to the staff! It’s also a cracking live music venue. I saw Shara Worden from My Brightest Diamond here, and well… she blew me away. I’ll be back for sure.
