Ok, it’s nice but come on, not the best pizzas in the world! But, they are very nice and the staff are lovely. Always somewhere to sit and they do take away as well. Extra toppings aren’t always generous (4 olives surely doesn’t count as a topping?!). Got a couple of free sambucas there the other night while we waited for our pizza, which would have been fine, except they did that weird German/Hamburg thing of putting coffee beans in the shot glass. How are you meant to drink it? Take the beans out first? Try to not swallow them as you’re drinking? Swallow the lot down? As someone who can’t swallow pills, having pill-sized things in a beverage is pretty much my worst nightmare. And it’s only something I’ve had to face in Hamburg. Odd. Anyway, Da Leonardo is definitely worth popping into if you’re in the St Pauli area. Does feel like you’ve gone to someone’s family for dinner. Which is a nice feeling.

I have definitely written a review of Da Leonardo before. I’m a little bit concerned that someone may have deleted my review! Grrrr….

Anyway, just a quick note reiterate what’s said below. Excellent pizza and great service. They’re also showing all of the Euro 2008 games here (outside) so it’s an awesome place to watch the footy this summer!

I've been to Da Leonardo a few times, and my overall feeling is that they deserve at least 6/5 for their food and amazing service that goes way beyond anything that could reasonably be expected.

One time, at 11:30PM on a Sunday(!) evening we went in hoping they were still open. They weren't really, but they said that they'd cook us some pizza for takeaway. While we waited they offered us a few free shots!

Last night (Saturday) we went in at 2:45AM or so. They were just shutting up - the lights were off and they were about to leave. Upon us turning up, they checked the oven - "yeah, it's off. It's OK, we'll fire it up again". Turned the lights back on and put the TV on. They literally opened the place just for three of us. Amazing.

We got beers, pizza and some free shots. Luckily one of our group spoke good italian (they don't speak much English) so we got quite a good conversation going with the owners - it's a completely family-run little place. Mother, Father and daughter (Angela). Angela was telling us about her Tiramasu, and then was like "hey, I'll go get you some", ok!

yeah, the place is completely brilliant.

Wow, what a place. We happened to be walking past after a big night out last night at about 3am, and had a look in the window to see if they might be open. They opened the door and welcomed us in - said they had been about to go home, but it was no problem, and duly fired up the oven and turned the lights back on. The owner rolled up his sleeves and started kneading out pizza bases while his daughter (Angela) asked us if we wanted to try some of their home-made limoncello, brought over from sicily. We ordered and then went to the kitchen with them so we could all watch them making the dough and try out some cheeses etc., then sat down and waited for the pizzas to arrive, which they shortly did. So these were some of the most amazing pizzas i've ever had, exactly how pizzas should be - piping hot, crispy thin bases and delicious toppings. Angela sat down and chatted to us while her parents watched italian tv. after the pizzas Angela asked us if we'd like to try some tiramisu which she'd made herself. That was also amazing, and they didn't even charge us for it! Anyway, this was basically the most friendly and authentic pizza experience i've ever had, even in italy, and it was extremely cheap. why don't we have anything like this in london :(

Italian joints are a dime a dozen, but good Italian joins are as rare as they come. Da Leonardo is a small, comfortable restaurant with a wide and affordable menu selection, authentic dishes and a nice atmosphere. The service is extremely friendly and the meals arrive in more than a timely manner. Try their seafood pasta, with four kinds of seafood and delicious sauce! Highly recommended for small and middle-sized parties.

My favorite place to grab a real pizza in Hamburg, great location plenty of seats, the staff and friendly and the service is excellent.. Every pizza I've ordered here has been great...perfectly cheesy, thin crusts bases and lashings of tasty tomato based sauce.
Cheap too with two Pizzas which was more then enough for three along with red wine dinner set us back only 27euros. Plus three free lemoncello shots to finish the meal.
I wonder if they do home delivery?
My only advice would be to ensure they've cut your pizza into slices if your doing take out and intend on eating as you walk or on a bus ;) Otherwise things could get messy

This is the best pizza place I've found in Hamburg. Run by a Sicilian family who are incredibly welcoming, they make thin crust lovely pizzas with loads of tomato sauce, just the way I like them. They'll always cook for you even after closing almost, and you get free shots while you wait. Highly recommended!
