West could be so good – it’s a great location and the menu is interesting. However, the service is sooooooo slow – 25 minutes at the bar while the waitress was trying to make a coffee – and the staff seem inexperienced. We sat outside, wrapped up warmly, but we were told that we could only order cold food if we were outside. It was disappointing to see, then, other people at outside tables being brought steaming plates of delicious looking food while we tucked into our bland sandwiches.
And another thing – what “law” says that it’s OK to serve wine outside in a glass, but that soft drinks must be served in a plastic tumbler?

It’s ideally located next to Glasgow Green, and some of the beers are rather nice.
Got deliberately short changed for a tenner by a bar person who assumed I was a foreign tourist and was unfamiliar with the currency.
The bar area itself is physically very strangely designed. The person pouring the drinks has to lean over a bar about 4 foot wide, and you have to sort of lean over and meet them halfway.
I probably won’t be back.

Went to West for lunch recently with a few friends I had never been before but had heard mixed reviews so was dubious.
Cant fault the place!
We had a lovely lunch I had the hot smoked salmon sandwich then apple strudel which was fab! the waiter even recommended some of the beers for us to compliment our dishes.
The place was quite busy and had a great buzz about it and really great atmosphere.
I will definately be back!

Its all very well and good owning a brewery/ bar with lots of types of genuinely tasty beers on tap. The only thing being is that you have to wait a very long time indeed to get your hands/ lips on it. I attended/ held a function not too long ago and some of my guests actually left because of the service or lack of. No urgency from the barstaff (not one bead of sweat). The only importance was in pouring that perfect pint which is all very well when your bar is not full to the rafters with thirsty party guests. I mean the food was nice, the beer was nice, and the venue was ok apart from being a bit cramped and seat-short, it's just the service was that of a quiet local on the corner of your street, which I suspect is not what this place is striving to be known for.
Don't think the bar staff have worked in a packed bar before. 25 - 40 minutes wait for a drink? Not again....

Service very poor - chaotic and slow. Kitchen either understaffed or incompetent. Took 90 minutes for mains to come. Food both overcooked and cold.

Reasonably average pub grub, but INCREDIBLY slow.
We ordered our food, waited and waited. 1hr for two mains, 4 other tables in the place.
It was OK when it arrived, nothing special, we ate and I asked for the bill. 15 minutes later, they had obviously forgotten so I paid at the bar.
Even that took ages, I think they must have a one ring camping stove in the kitchen and only employ staff with frontal lobotomies.

Worst service I have had in a long time.
Colleague had organised a tour of the brewery, followed by some food and beer. After much confusion over prepayment and dates, we arrived on time. Had been promised that tour would take around 45 minutes and food would on the table when we finished Well, tour actually took about 20 minutes, followed by some quick samples of 4 beers, little or no explanation of what they were or anything.
Then had to wait over an hour or more for food and beer to arrive. At one point 4 starters appears (out of 13), but nothing else. Had to wait 45 minutes for the rest of the order to arrive. Even had to ask repeatedly for the 4 jugs of beer included in the price.
Live "Umpa" band seemed to know more Cockney pub songs like "Roll out the Barrel" played on a tuba rather than German drinking music !!
Speciality German beer wasn't that different from any other decent pints. Won't be back soon.

I was in here today with my wife, daughter, son-in-law and grand-daughter. My daughter drew the short straw - she ordered a broad bean and pea salad as a starter and it arrived without any broad beans. She let this go and then after waiting 40 mins for the main course her lamb dish arrived with the blood running out of it - even the mashed potatoes were red with gore. She asked for it to be taken away and a surly 'waitress' simply whipped it off the table and grunted, "Want something else ?" as she sauntered off withy the grisly plateful. When the bill arrived she was duly charged for that same grisly load and an extra pint of beer to boot. When she asked about this it was grudgingly sorted and a half hearted apology was given. She was asked, "Was the lamb too tender for you ?" 'Tender' must be the German equivalent word for 'raw'. I won't be back ever.

This is a mecca for beer lovers as they have their own micro brewery and a great selection of "round the world" bottled beer. You can opt to have a litre glass which requires a £5 deposit at the bar, just incase you are tempted to stick it in your bag.
It is a doggie friendly pub which is great if you have been round the green with your 4 legged friend and fancy a wee drink (they have bowls of water for the doggies).
The food we had was ok, we got a couple of sandwiches each priced at £4.95, I had chicken with bacon and the quality of chicken used was lovely although why you get a mountain of frozen chips is a mystery (appaerntly you can opt for salad which I would reccommend), my hubby had the smoked ham and cheese which he wasn't mad about as the ham was more like a parma ham style as opposed to honey roast etc.
On the whole the place has a good vibe and is more for a relaxed pint in your hunter wellies as opposed to being in Jimmy Choo's.

just because you have a poor opinion of everything, doesn't mean you're right. WEST brews better beer than the pints pushed in most pubs in Glasgow. Therefore it becomes a de facto stop for beer lovers looking for something a bit better.
If you haven't got a life, please don't bring everyone elses down with your snidey wee snips.
the only decent beer ive had in the west was the bottled german or the draught meantime brews you had on sure its better than tennents or mcspewans but thats not saying much.leave brewing german beers to the germans
Sorry darling, you have me at the wrong brewpub. I'm just a supporter of what the boys at WEST are doing.
Family popped in for lunch. We'd been to the People's Palace and were looking for somewhere close by. Friendly service, great smoothies and reasonably priced sandwiches (£5 including fries or salad). Lovely roomy venue.

Really enjoy this place in the summer.
They have a massive selection of beers and some good pub grub.
Its massive so ur normally okay for a table and theres also tables outside.
The menu is quite small but everything iv tasted has been good and filling - id suggest the steak pie which comes with a massive pile of mash potatoes.
Its also pretty family friendly being beside glasgow green, nice for a change and just beside town.

real beer not like tennets this stuff will blow your head off if drank in large quantities goes down very smoothly not tried there food as the the price of the lovely beer emptied my pockets and wallet... nice if you`ve got someone driving you here as its not easiest or safest place to get to using public transport.

I have been coming here since it opened and I love the place. I'm a Glaswegian who loves Bavaria, and to find a Munich style beer hall in Glasgow is a dream come true! The location is great, on the edge of the park with a nice beer garden. The hall is large and part of an historic Glasgow building.
I come for the beer which is excellent, as you would expect from anything brewed to Munich standards. Clearly there is an emphasis on quality here, and it shows.
However I have found the food to be really disappointing. Perhaps I have just been unlucky but, on the few occasions I have tried the food, it has been poor(which is why I haven't eaten here more often). I tried fish here recently and it was truly awful. The quality of the fish was so poor that the excellent batter was wasted on it. Their"Bavarian specialties" such as sauerkraut and potato salad are obviously just out of a tin, and nothing like those you are served fresh in Bavaria.
So my message to the people at West is: please put the same emphasis on QUALITY in the ingredients of your food as you do in your beer.

Probably my favourite place in Glasgow to go for a beer, nice location, lovely building, friendly/knowledgable staff. Put that together with my love of German style beer and food and I’m just about in heaven.
And to make it even better that they brew the beer themselves.

poor attempt at a german style brewey, the beer is not up to german standards ,the best beer i had in their was the genuine german bottled beer and some of the draught bought in from other breweries food poor and expensive with small portions

Took my dad her for Father’s Day (with mother being an interloper for the day!). After a slight transport mishap due to First Glasgow, we finally arrived.
My folks both love German food and beer, so it was the perfect place, and my dad was in heaven from the second he stepped into the building. There were 5 own brewed beers available on the day we were there, which come in half pint, pint or litre glasses. The food is a mix of Scottish and German and is out of this world.
Dad and I had a starter of black pudding with apple and walnut and mother had vegetable soup. Both were excellent. For some stupid reason, I ordered meatloaf as my main course. I don’t like meatloaf, never have and doubt I ever will. It was a disappointment, but of my own making. Mum and dad both had a bit and loved it. For their mains, they both had pork weiner schnitzel. The meals were huge, and it was the first time I had ever seen my dad struggle and have to leave food. After a nice relaxing seat of about 2hours, we braved a piece of apple strudel between the 3 of us and it was divine.
Father’s Day had fallen in the middle of the Glasgow Jazz Festival, so there was a trio playing their for most of the afternoon. I’m not a jazz fan, but they were good at what they did and didn’t overpower the room.
Very reasonably priced as well, as the whole thing came to under £80. That included drinks, liquers, and a pint glass as an extra present for my dad.
Dad is raving about this place to the guys at his work, and he’s tring to find a way to get back through from Edinburgh again soon!

This is a really nice restaurant! Food is good. A mix of German and British delights. The beers are the main reason why you should visit they brew there own in the building as well as loads of others. The also make some cocktails which are lovely and unusual! Great on a summer night with friends!

Bit of a factory feel to it although that’s probably because it was a factory in its previous life. Great, reasonably priced beer. Good place for meeting friends.
