Was there two years ago - it is not a traditional Japanese restaurant (there are some on the same street), but all dishes were beautifully modern and ARTISTIC (too much artistic and I hesiated to eat them), and at the same time tasted good. Unfortunately not for 'daily use' rather for 'special' occasion because of the price - but you wouldn't be disappointed by a 3-hour dinner course. Go there with someone special....or business partners who would buy you dinner ;-)

Nagaya is simply the best Japanese restaurant in the German-Japanese capital of Germany: Düsseldorf. The food is very creative, top quality and always comes in a nice presentation.  

I liked them when they still had the basement location in Carlstadt but the new location is also stylish and very simplistic.  

I will be back for many more servings ... 

Will not disappoint. Excellent sushi. Make a reservation first. Also, they have a relatively big selection of fish.

First Michelin Star for Japanish Chef

Yoshizumi Nagaya is the first Asian Chef in Germany who is awarded with a Michelin Star (2010) and as an Asian Origin and Japenese Fan, I was dyingly and very willingly to let my eyes (!) n tongue spoiled by their masterpiece(s) and I was very thankfull to my generous Cavalier for this fantastic venture.

After the not so long wait (Reservation is a Must!) we landed at the Best Japanese Restaurant in this country! We chose OMAKASE - the breathtaking 16 Course Menu - plus a glass of a very nice Japanese Champagne.

To be honest my tummy was somehow satisfied that I didnt have to stuff myself with a Kebab or Burger at the Fast Food Stall. No worries! After this 'adventure' I wont let those heavy but Yummy German Trad.food, Kebabs, Pizzas and Burgers down!

Anyway, I have a tiny silly (open) question: why did Nagaya go to Milan and learnt at NOBU for his further skills? I mean, japanish Restaurant n Italy? Or is that bec of the next Armani/NOBU's Branch?

Nagaya has moved to Klosterstr. and if you like Nobu you will love this place.
The miso black cod is to die for and the chef will be more than happy to prepare you anything that is not on the menu.
The service is good and accommodating and the interior simple but not what I would call intimate (maybe more so up front).
Definately the place to go if you have a chance!

i was once here last year and i really enjoyed it. so, i came back again this year with a big expectation. i almost asked the cook why he still does not have a star. but i was too shy at first. i ordered the big menu. and as the food started, i was not so enthusiasted anymore. i did not like enjoy the ideas and the combinations of the cook. after the menu, i understood why the restaurant still did not have a star. also, the preparation of the dishes were not that perfect. the fish could have been cut better etc etc.... pity.

Hard to give a vote:
3 for the food quality
4 for the atmosphere and the service (not perfect)
5 for the presentation of foods

so if you want to impress your girlfriend and you’re not afraid to spend 100 euros each, that’s a good choice.
But as for food, there are better sushi at one third of the price.

They have a wonderful Japanese (fusion)type of dishes. Not only the taste, but each dish is just like a one piece of art and it is just amazing. My boss also loves here!

Nagaya is not only the best Japanese restaurant in Dusseldorf, it’s one of the best I have been to anywhere (and I lived in Tokyo for two years).

Food quality, presentation and service are both exemplary, I cannot recommend it highly enough - it’s a slam-dunk 5 stars. Lunchtime set-course menu is outstanding value for the quality.
