Mission to Seamen

This place is just off Kilwa Road across the harbour, and all taxi drivers know it. This is where seafarers can come and relax, and it really is a relaxing place in crazy Dar es Salaam: there is a large bar, a chapel, a nice terrace with restaurant (fair fare, and fair price but don’t expect great cuisine) and a reasonably large swimming pool (much larger than the Holiday Inn). It is usually surprisingly quiet, although there are some groups of youngsters that come to swim here - mostly from the Arab and Indian communities. Everything is surrounded by trees and shrubs. It is also rumored to be the place where the Tanzanian bishops come to have adrink when they have their meetings in Kurasini..

A pity that the surroundings are not inviting. And I wouldn’t walk around there at night.
