Took a bunch of Brits and Swedes out to this meat-place. A unique touch of the good old days welcomed us immediately when seeing all the pictures of the celebrities that once had paid a visit to the place. The beef was just great and cooked to the very preference of our guests. Waitresses were pretty busy but showed a great sense of humour. This is Hamburg’s best place for beef. We will be back.

Really nice cosy tavern-like ambience with friendly & attentive service despite being very popular & almost full capacity most evenings PLUS a really tricky layout for servers to navigate laden with trays of food or drinks. Food is superb: best steak I’ve ever had & testified by friends who’ve eaten at top class places that charge an arm & a leg. Free flow sides of mushrooms stir-fried with bacon, fried potato chips & cream spinach makes it even more of a steal than it already is. Shared a starter seafood platter for two which was very yummy & filling despite it’s “smaller” portion compared to a main course. Definitely very value for money for the incredible food quality.

Not a lot to add... I've been there 3-4 times with colleagues and family.... Food (steak, filet) is simply fantastic... I guess the best I have never had...
The staff is also very friendly and polite... it may not be cheap... I'd say average (consider what you're eating!)
I come from Italy and my parents once came to Hamburg just to eat filet there... need to add more??

went there with my parents on their first night in hamburg, which also happend to be my dad's birthday.
i'm vegetarian myself, but my parents are both big steak lovers so after reading the reviews here i knew i had to take them to Schlachterbörse.
And the steaks did not disappoint - both my parents ordered the fillet steak and said it was fantastic. They've both eaten in some of the best places in north and south america, so that means something coming from them. My mother even said it's possibly the best steak she's ever had and wondered how they managed to make it so tender.
The rote grutze with ice cream we had for dessert was great as well.
The reason I'm giving the place only three stars, though, is the service.
We had about 3 or 4 different waitresses taking care of the little room we were sitting at, which might have been the source of the mess.
They were very nice, but when our main courses came for some reason they brought me a schnitzel instead of the vegetarian platter I ordered.
By the time they fixed the mistake and brought the veggie food, my parents already finished their steaks (obviously they couldn't wait or they would get cold and you don't eat a cold steak).
To top it all off, at the end it took them ages to bring us the bill and when they finally did - they charged us for the schnitzel instead of the vegetarian platter (there's a 7 euro difference there).
The waitress explained the problem is that the codes for those two dishes on the computer are really similar and fixed the mistake, but still, all of these problems did ruin the experience a little.

The best Steak House in Hamburg.
By far!
I had the Pepper steak. Its simply delicious.
the service is great, the waiter (or owner's daughter) is so friendly.
the red wine is great!
This place is however expensive, 30€ for a steak but its worth it.
so when you go there, make sure you do take the filet instead of any cheaper meal.
Great place for business too.

One tip for when you visit: spend the extra €6 and go for the fillet steak rather than the rump, or you’ll regret it when your friends food arrives!
A rump steak will set you back €23.50 and fillet is €30 or so, and the beer is pretty expensive (€5.10 for 0.5L of Erdinger). The steaks are amazing though and it’s well worth coming for the atmosphere alone really. The place is quite large, but each individual room is pretty small and so there is definitely a cosy feel.
Steaks all come with mushrooms & spinach and supposedly a choice between fried potatoes, fries & jacket potatoes, but we didn’t seem to be offered the choice. Thankfully they brought the fried potato option, which is what we all wanted anyway.
One last thing worth mentioning is that you really have to reserve a table, so as not to face disappointment when you find out that they’re full.
Overall I’d say it’s a little pricey, but definitely worth it for special occasions.

Not a lot more to say, other than repeating what has been said before. Cracking food, top notch service and not hard on the pocket. If I could give it 6 stars, I would!
**Review Update*
Went here last night and once again had a cracking meal. The owners daughter was serving us and it was probably some of the best service i have had in Hamburg. Pepper steak was excellent and the red wine went down a treat. Schlaterborse remains expensive (about 50 euros per head) but it’s definitely worth it.

I really don’t feel like i need to write a lengthy review here. This place is great. VERY friendly waitress, delicious cuts of meat, great atmosphere and an excellent selection of beers and wines. The pepper steak was heavenly.
REVIEW IN ONE LINE: Probably the best steak you will ever eat.

I've eaten steak at Gaucho Grill, I've had some good eating in Toulouse, and at the top of the John Hancock tower in Chicago. The steak at Petersham Nurseries is to die for. But I don't think I've ever eaten steak quite as good as this.
I knew it was a great restaurant when I set foot inside. It's delightfully styled, with all sorts of interesting trinkets and pictures adorning the walls. Celebrities from far and wide have tucked into some real meat here - Woody Allen, David Hasselhoff... big names.
Anyway - I ordered the pepper fillet, medium rare. The sides are included and you share them. This is real melt in the mouth stuff - swimming in blood but somehow not at all cold in the centre, and incredibly thick. I've no idea how to cook steak like this, but I'd love to watch them... a must try in Hamburg!
