Because i’m a student at university in leicester and my family are in London. I had to have my hair done and couldn’t have waited 2 and a half months to move back to have my family do my hair, so thought it would be easier to go to a hair salon.

Have been using Indy for over 7 years now and have never left unhappy :)
Would highly recommend them!!
i was quite confident in indy when i asked them to sort my hair out and make it look more natural. when i told her what i wanted, she didn't come out with a colour chart and show me the colour that she was going to put on my hair, if she did then i wouldn't have gone ahead with it.
she put a colour 80 on my hair, which is a brown colour, and she put horrible stripy UNNATURAL highlights at the top of my head. where my routes are, it's now ginger. it's horrible, then they had the cheek of charging me £70 for something i didn't ask for.
i had a chat with the hairdresser and she also brought a senior out. they both said to leave it for a week and see whether i get used to it. i knew i wouldn't, but went home.
the next morning, i called them and booked an appointment a week later and told them that i will NOT be paying any more than i have already to sort my hair out, the woman on the phone said that was fine to not pay anything. i said i wanted it a natural blonde with subtle tonnes, but i have stripy brown and ginger hair. i was then confident that they'd sort it out for me after speaking to the woman on the phone.
2 days later from calling, the manager called me and said that he will talk to me at my appointment just so that they're all on the same page as to what i want, because that is 'company policy'. i thought great, finally i will have my blonde hair back and hopefully have it put right and what i wanted.
i turned up to my appointment, with no manager there. he clearly couldn't be bothered to get out of bed, as it was at half 9 in the morning, despite my strong feelings against the service i paid for, which i made clear to him on the phone, 'company policy', really?
the hairdresser who did my hair sat me down, and did EVERYTHING she could to get me out of the salon without doing anything to my hair. i stood my ground until she started to talk down to me and started to raise her voice at me a little bit, she got too firm and made me feel extremely uncomfortable. she thought that she was right, THE WHOLE of my family are hairdressres -my dad, my mum, my aunt and my nan. i know how hairdressers work with being brought up around hairdressers. the customer IS ALWAYS right, if i asked for a natural blonde and didn't get it then i should have it sorted. but, she might as well have told me that i was wrong and stupid. i know what i wanted, and i didn't get it, not even anywhere close. i wasn't being rude at all, i was only trying to tell her how i felt but felt like she talked down at me and was being really rude. i walked out without getting anything fixed.
i now have to pay more money to put my hair back to how it was. if i wanted to turn brown, i would have visited boots and brought a packet dye for £7, and not spend £70.
i can't stress enough how disappointed i am with the service. please, do not go here. i will never walk in there again and spend another penny in there. they don't listen to you, and they think they're right despite the customer's opinion.

Hi,
I know Indy very well and have been going there for years. Firstly, Indy Hair is probably the best salon in Leicester. YOu could go to Rachael Hammond and have a monstrosity applied to your head from ‘Kyle the manager’!!
Indy starts around 7.30 every day. Very seldom he isnt at the salon on Saturdays. Apart from you, i would doubt anyone else has a bad word to say about the Salon. He always sorts out what little problems he has. I’d recommend Indy Hair any day of the week over any other salon…
As you are from a family of hair dressers, i’d suspect this post is to purposefully imply that Indy Hair is inferior in a direct attempt to promote of enhance the hairdresser name of your family. i might be wrong. A mechanic wouldn’t take his car to a different garage so why go to a different hair salon unless of course, the family hairdressers are infact the inferior ones or more to the point, you just didnt express your requirements to the Salon enough.
Being from a hairdresser family, you should have asked for a colour chart if you hadnt been given one!
i hear Kyle can @ Rachael Hammond can make all sorts of nasties appear. Maybe you go to see him if you really want something to complain about!!

That’s fair enough, some people have a good word to say and some don’t!
And you’re completely wrong. My family of hairdresser’s aren’t even in Leicester, and I haven’t even mentioned the name of the hairdressers? So no.
And again, wrong. If you actually took the time to read my previous comment, I was at university in Leicester, and studying for assessments and exams and had no time to travel back home. I wish I had now! But it would have been months until I went back home. Otherwise, of course I would have gone to my family and asked to do my hair instead of waste £70. Also, I brought in photographs and told the hairdresser what I wanted. What else could I have done to ‘express my requirements to the Salon’?
As soon as i got back home, my mother put my hair right and put a cap on it, and my hair’s is now the colour that I asked to have. Thank goodness!
The problem I had was that the manager didn’t turn up when he told me he was going to over the phone after I told him the problems I had, and the fact that the hairdresser pulled out all the stops to get me out of the chair… there’s no excuse for that. If a job is done wrong, they should put it right, no exceptions. I asked for blonde, and it was no where near blonde. Simple. And I should have asked for the colour chart, yes! But I put my trust in Indy, I would have thought a hairdressers would have been able, but I was let down unfortunately. My university friends looked at the photos I showed the hairdresser, and told me my hair was no where near the colour. A friend actually offered to put it right for me because the highlights looked so bad. It’s not just me!I don’t want to be nasty. I’m over this whole thing, this was well over a month ago! The experience was just a bad one, I’ve learnt my lesson not to spend any money there again, I’ll simply go elsewhere when I’m at university. I just thought I’d let people know what a bad experience I had. If people ignore it then that’s fair enough :) I really don’t mind!

Sounds like a typical case of….“I will try something new…..dont like it….and make out that the salon have made a mistake” The whole of your family may be hairdressers…but does that make you an expert?? I have been going to Indy once a month Indy for 7+ years now and have been pleased with all of the various different stylists who have cut & coloured my hair. I have had to have a slight correction made to a colour in the past and it was no problem what so ever. Which is why i firmly believe that if your colour was not what you asked for, they would have corrected it. As Indy works solely on word of mouth, i’m sure one spoilt student will not ruin its reputation.

If you read my other comments, then you’ll understand. I only signed up for this qype thing just to review indy, i was extremely unhappy. I wouldn’t slag off a hairdressers I don’t know and didn’t actually have a bad experience with? It was a complete nightmare, and their customer service to me was terrible. That’s MY EXPERIENCE, not yours. But, I advise you read the other comments before you claim something like that.

And they didn’t correct it. they put out all the stops, even raised her voice at me, in order for me to walk out the salon. I wanted a natural blonde, I had a brown put on my hair with stipey blonde highlights at the top of my head. I even took in photographs of examples, and not just one either. I had a terrible TERRIBLE experience with them, and i’ll never EVER go back their again purely for their customer service towards me. But doesn’t mean to say that you have?

I went there today for the first time after reading some good reviews about them online, i had been searching for a good hairdressers in Leicester for ages and I was really hoped they'd be good as i have had some bad experiences with hairdressers and am incredibly fussy....but they were absolutely brilliant! I was apprehensive at first as hairdressers ALWAYS cut my hair shorter than i want, but alll the staff are really friendly, they treat each person like a valued customer, the girl i had really listened to what i said i wanted, it was cut to the perfect length, in the style i said i wanted and i went away really happy with the results! Great service, friendly and welcoming staff and good quality wash and haircut and styling....the prices are more than reasonable, start from £20 for a wash and cut (graduate stylist) and stagger upwards, am definitely going to keep going there! Thanks Indy x

I’m not sure what the previous person is talking about as I’ve been going here for about 12 years so it’s hardly new.
In that time they have been consistently the best hairdressers in the city. I have lived in Manchester during that time but still used to come back for a contemporary cut as the salons there are just too posy!
If it’s a shampoo and set you want then stay away, if you want something contemporay and stylish, don’t go anywhere else.

Indys is a new salon in the city centre. When I went in for my appointment, the recepton floor was cluttered with bottles of shampoo and other hair products. They obviously hadn’t had health and safety training. The salon itself, though decorated well in a modern, trendy style, was just as messy and there was little room to walk around.
However, the service was great. My hairdresser was really lovely and attentive to what I wanted to have done and was also helpful with giving advice and tips.
The prices are fantastic for a salon in the city centre and service is excellent!
