Sometimes frequent this pub on a Thursday night for quiz night. Really nice atmosphere. Bar staff and customers all seem really friendly. A nice outdoor area where we always getting chatting to different customers. Parking available.
This pub was on a bit of a downhill slide until a recent change of management revived its offerings and apparently also its fortunes (it certainly seems to have got more busy there recently).
As well as the college, there are a lot of businesses including the local council nearby, so there is generally a good mix of people here at lunchtime, with more 'locals’ in the evenings.
The food here is simple and good value for money - nothing fancy, but well cooked and served hot to your table by friendly staff.
The outside area is pleasant in summer with a grassed area and tables out the back and covered area at the side popular with smokers.
A good friendly pub that has seen a few changes in management and custom.
For a while it became a bit of a dive, but now it seems back on it’s feet and fairly busy.
During the day it benefits from being next to the college, loads of students hold up the bar at lunch time. I like the way it is laid out and that it has that 'feel’ - alive but not hyperactive.
Plenty of parking.
