Couldn’t agree more, this is just one of the most fascinating buildings in London; currently partly covered in scaffolding. Unforunately, you can’t just walk in and have a snoop around. Trellick Tower is usually included in Architecture Open Weekends - expect long queues. The wait is worth it - I’ve been on a guided tour to a couple of the flats and the roof, and my childhood dream of living in a tower block when I grow up reawakened.

As far as I am concerned this is one of London's most important landmarks. Forget Westminster or the Tower. 98 metres high, a concrete block of council flats, designed by Erno Goldfinger and completed in 1972. The building is Grade II listed and it's worth the detour if you're in Notting Hill and on the brink of getting bored by the market. Just walk close to the tower, look up and ask yourself how on earth did the builders manage to attach that small 'service tower' to the main building. When you know the answer let me know because I haven't a clue. Fascinating.

If you can't be bothered to walk there and you happen to be riding the Heathrow Express, choose a seat on the right hand side. A couple of minutes before you arrive at Paddington you can see the tower. The structure is just beautiful in it's own right.
